OT: Sept 11th

Didn't see anything posted about this today.  I have purposely not watched any news programs today because I didn't want to relive the horrific day of the towers coming down, but certainly remember those I know who were lost 11 years ago today.  Just wondering if anyone else lost anyone close to them that they are remembering today.  I did visit the memorial earlier this summer and looking forward to when the museum will finally be open.

I remember the day well.  It was a picture perfect day with bright blue skies.  I was at work when I heard about the first plane.  Flipped out when I heard about the second as I knew my parents were heading down to the WTC with friends visiting from S.America.  Cell phones were jammed and I didn't hear about their safety till about 11am.  Later learned about a few college friends who perished.

Anyone else have any stories?

  • My boyfriend's (at the time) parents were in one of the towers on business, but they were in the lobby getting coffee or something when it happened. They made it out, though we didn't hear until later in the day. We were juniors in highschool, so it was a very scary thing for him.

  • Wow, I can't imagine having a loved one there - I was also a junior in high school and completely confused when they told us a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center.  I thought it was an accident, we weren't able to see the news at school so I didn't really understand until I went home.

  • I was a freshman in college in upstate NY, sitting in my 8 am calc class. One of the other profs in the department just kind of stumbled into the room and blurted it out. Then he burst into tears. I have never seen a man cry like that. It was crazy.

I remember that classes were canceled, and everyone just went to the chapel and sat there in absolute silence and prayed.

My uncle and his wife lived in NYC at the time but were in the Hamptons for the weekend.
