Question about Quinn

Has it gone to the girls? If you read Quinn on a piece of paper would you expect to meet a male or a female?

I have a terrible soft spot for Quinn. I like Quentin but it just doesn't seem to fit anymore. I don't usually tend toward surnames but there is just something about Quinn that I really like...for a boy.

Re: Question about Quinn

  • I feel that Quin is a girl name, but my sister just named her son Quinten and calls him Quin.  She didn't even know anyone would ever consider it a girls name.  I am a Glee fan though... you might get different results from someone unfamiliar with Glee.

  • My cousin has a 3 year old son named Quinn. I know boys and girls with this name, but like other names such as Cameron or Morgan, it does not sound feminine to me. I'd assume boy unless a feminine mn was included.

  • Hmmm...though I prefer it for boys, I think my gut reaction would be girl only because the only Quinn I know is a girl.

  • I like Quinten for a boy , with Quinn as a NN. It is no different then Sam on a girl and a boy. Both are fitting!
  • I still think boy.

  • For me, Quinn is one that is gender neutral in my mind. Examples: A male cop in the show Dexter is named Quinn. He's a complete hunk and the name is quite fitting. On the other hand, Quinn on Glee is about as girly as you can get. If I were reading the name on a piece of paper, I'd have a hard time knowing what gender the person was.
  • I always think girl.  However, the only Quinn I "know" is the character from Glee.
  • I still think boy.
  • The only Quinn I have ever met was a guy. I do think the glee popularity will make people think girl though.

I think the Quinn on Dexter is his last name.

  • I definitely think Quinn is now fully a girl's name.

  • I'd still use it on a boy. I consider it unisex.

I hate everything is going to girls.

  • I went to college with a female Quinn, which is the first time I heard that name.

Fast forward 10 years, Quinn was my top choice for a girl's name.  One of our friends had a baby boy and named him Quinn.

So, I think it is a unisex name, although I prefer it on a girl.

  • I think it is more of a unisex name now, leaning more towards girls but I wouldn't let that deter me from using for a boy! It's not extremely feminine!

  • I always thought of Quinn as a girl's name from the start because of that show Daria.  But then there was a character on Dexter named Quinn (although I can't remember if that was his first or last name).

  • Why wouldn't Quentin fit anymore?

The only Quinn (as a first name) that I have known was a girl, but I can see how it could be used for both. I'm not familiar enough with the name itself to say whether it is officially a girl, boy or unisex name.

I don't feel like it goes with DS name very well. I also prefer shorter names these days.

  • I think you commented on my DSs name the other day - he is Quinn!

And I love it, and am glad we went for it.  I don't know any other Quinns (boy or girl).  It's always been a male name for me.  I say go for it.

For us, DH and I are huge Dylan and Dead fans.  We chose his name from Quinn the Eskimo, (The mighty Quinn!), who is all boy. :)

ETA: I have never watched a second of Glee.

Logan? Well, I guess if enough people name their kids any masculine name enough it becomes feminine...which is what happened to Quinn. I'm waiting to meet a little girl named John or Klaus or maybe even Diesel. Yikes.

Me either. We don't watch alot of TV so I miss alot of pop culture references.

Yes, I did comment on your LO's name. I really like it for a boy. I think Quinn seems more masculine than it does feminine. It has a nice crisp sound to it that Quentin just doesn't have (nothing wrong with Quentin though). I think we are going to put it on the short list. So we will probably pick from Ronan, Miles, or Quinn.

    Thanks for the feedback! Smile
