city mini vs city select

I am pregnant with our first child and DH and I definitely plan to have at least one more probably not to long after (would love them to be around 2 years apart)

We have definitely decided on the baby jogger brand but now can't decide between the single stroller (city mini- $250) or to think ahead and just invest in the city select now ($500) that can be later converted to a double.

$500 seems like SO MUCH for a stroller but I guess not as much as needing to buy another stroller in like 2 years...

Anyone make this decision and can tell us pros/cons to either?

pros of city mini: cheaper, lighter, more manageable for now

cons: will need a double stroller in a couple of years.

pros of city select:  will convert to a double stroller without needing a new one

cons: more expensive, heavier, etc.

Thoughts??

Re: city mini vs city select

  • We got the city select b/c we plan on having more kids.  Sure its heavier and costs more but it has a million more features!  I do not regret it at all. I love it is a single and even as a double (with friends kids).

  • I got both, but would recommend investing in the City Select if you are only picking one.

I picked the city select because I really like the configurations as a double.  There is no other stroller like it that compares.  I wanted the Upppa Baby Vista but the rumble seat is just not the same!  I loved using it when DD was in her infant seat and we could just snap the car seat into the stroller and go.  The reason I bought the city mini was because when DD moved out of her infant seat I found that the city select was a pain in the butt to put together and take apart for quick trips around town.  If I had a list of 3-4 places we had to stop I got annoyed by constantly having to take apart and put together the stroller. The City mini was the answer for me!  It's a really great stroller for quick day to day use and would be a great stroller for travelling.

With a 2nd baby on the way, I will be buying the 2nd seat for the City Select and am also planning on purchasing a double city mini, I love it that much!   Plus I think the city mini will be nicer for long walks around the neighborhood.  The city select as a double is going to be really heavy on the front and a little tougher to manouver.  Especially since DD1 weighs 35 lbs already at 19 months!!

  • I have owned about 4 strollers all before my city select. I was penny wise and dollar foolish!

I love this stroller. I use it as a single, double, single + glider board, and the basket is huge, both kids are comfortable. They love facing each other or facing me....every combination.

If you plan to have more kids (especially if they are close) get this stroller but if you plan to space them out 3 years or more you probably won't use it as a double that much.

  • I only have a 4 month old (not 2 kids yet), but we debated the same thing. We ended up getting the city mini gt because I figured when we have our second child (2-3 years apart) there will be a new double stroller on the market I'd want or the select would have new features. I LOVE our cm gt! It's super easy to get in and out of the car as its lightweight.

  • If I had to do it again, I would have definitely purchased the City Select with we had DD#1. We just got it, now that we have 2u2 and LOVE it!! Worth every penny (and yes, we are selling 2 other single strollers that we no longer need).

  • I went through the same thought process. Ultimately I decided on the City Mini GT. Most people I know with 2 kids like to have a single stroller and double as well, so I think we'll stil use the super convenient Mini for #2 and then we'll just buy another double. I think the true doubles are nicer than the convertible ones.

  • Just today did I decide on the City Mini, but now I am not so sure bc I thought I saw on Amazon that it had the option to make into a double but that is for the select only.

Though I did find a really good review that compared these two plus the Mini GT that could be helpful. Its the first review. https://www.amazon.com/Baby-Jogger-Single-Stroller-Shadow/dp/B006QH43Y0/ref=sr_1_3?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1347473457&sr=1-3&keywords=strollers

Guess I am going to have to reevaluate and really go compare them in person as I really do need something that is more all terrain so the GT may be it for me but is it really worth the extra $100 plus all the add ons I want like the car seat attachment and the drink console, etc.

You realize that the City Select is a double AND a single, right? I ditched my single. I don't need it. I like that the CS folds flat and with the seats off and on top of the flat frame, it is still smaller than my single. Trunk space in my sedan is limited and that is why we went with the CS.

If I could go back in time, I would've gotten the Select first. We bought everything together and spent $760 at one time, if I spread the cost, it wouldn't have been so bad.
