Preschool already!

I cant believe it but last night I called up a preschool about enrolling DS. Registration for next year is starting in October so if I want to get him in I need to register then. Its just a crazy concept to me that Im enrolling my baby in school already.

Re: Preschool already!

  • Jeez! It's amazing to me how competitive preschool can be in some areas. Like it entirely fascinates me.

Here in the Middle of the Sticks Midwest you sign your kid up for Pre-K the spring/summer before they start. And if it's full, they suggest you try the other school in town, stick you on the dropout waiting list or sign up for another year of Mom and Me at night..lol. It's not a big deal. Like at all in these parts.

I will say though, I'm taking Rubes to ECFE which is like a low key "school" for toddlers. I'm excited for her to see other kids and it's just for fun but it still seems so "schoolish!"

  • There are one or two schools like that around here, but I don't like them so I am not worried about it. I haven't really even given it much thought, though it will be here before we know it!
  • I think my LO will just continue to go to the daycare (they have before school and after school programs for elementary too) so I am glad I don't have to worry about this yet.  I might cry!  My little baby!  Haha.

ETA: Though I might look for something cheaper.  $50 per month sounds a lot better than the $1K per month we're spending now.

ETAA: Oh nevermind, she's in FT daycare, not 3 hours every other day.  My bad!  I need to read better.

  • Oh boy - for preschool?  WOW!  I did learn that I need to have DD#1 registered for K by December.  I have heard of that, but didn't realize it was the case in our town as we live in a pretty small town.  But for preschool!?!?

As a teacher this is pretty normal. In a lot of places state funding for K is pulled from a few different sources and if they don't exact numbers, they don't get paid.

I also understand it, because well it's actually school...lol.

PREK is school too I guess, but I've always just considered it a low key, more for fun kind of thing.

  • To clarify, the preschool has a 2 year old program. I'm not registering him for kindergarten or anything crazy like that.

  • All the pre-K around me are for 2.5 at the youngest so it'll be a bit before I deal with this. Although I've heard in some areas it's more common to get kids registered a year+ before they start since some programs are very competitive.

It's still crazy to think how fast it's approaching though!

  • Our preschool is the same way. It's a Montessori and I am planning on registering him this winter so he can begin when he is 3! Crazy! I know!
