I voted no because my husband does not have off. I am a SAHM. He will be taking the day off though even though he doesn't want to because the end of the year is a busy time for him.
Depends on what day Xmas is on... I usually don't have to work, but sometimes they only give us a half day.
Like if Xmas is on Wed, then I get a half day Tues and a full day Wed.
I don't even know what day it is this year.
Christmas and New Year's day are both on Tuesdays this year. It seems like a pretty crappy day for them to fall. Since I don't have much leave built up from maternity leave, I have to come in on the Mondays before.

i wish i could be joking but my dad is the music teacher at a church so he owuld be mad. we had sex, all the time how bad i know but we dont want to wait and he said GREAT OH KAY! and I was really feeling the wets? down there- too embarsed to say- but he acted like man.
I voted no because the company I work for is open on Xmas day. However, I do hope to have that day off. If not I will work from home, it should be a slow day. There are only 3 of us in this position plus our manager, so we don't usually put requests in that far ahead unless we have specific plans. Plus my boss is cool with covering everyone if it comes to that.
No. I work for the government on a Navy base and normally they will do 59 minutes off for the day before holidays.
I work for the fed gov too. I'm really hoping Obama gives us a "gift" and gives us off that Monday! Sometimes it happens. But in the current economy, prob not.
I requested off, but everyone does, so someone has to be here. Someone's leave will get denied.
Yes! This year both Christmas and New Year's Day fall on a Tuesday, and we get both the Monday and Tuesday off when that happens. So I only have to use 3 vacation days to get 11 days off!!

That would be awesome. I've been here for about 4 years and can't recall that happening. They used to let us off around noon on days before holidays, but it got cut back to 59 minutes. I normally come in around the holidays because it's so dead here.

I picked SS. I'm now a SAHM, but I always had to work christmas eve, and christmas a lot. The worst christmas I ever worked was when I worked at a hotel. Most people stay with family over christmas so there were only a few guest in the whole hotel, it was really weird. So I had to stand at the front desk for 8 hours, by myself, doing nothing. A housekeeping came in for an hour to clean the few rooms, but she only spoke Spanish, so I didn't speak to her too much. I was so bored so the 8 hours seemed like 15 hrs. Also, this is before smart phones and we couldn't use the internet so there was nothing for me to do!
The one good thing the Army does (at least most of the units at Campbell) is give them the opportunity to take leave a couple of weeks for Christmas and New Year's. You have to have the time to actually take it, but DH always does. He'll get from like Dec 15th to like Jan 2nd.

That sounds AWFUL! I'm sorry you had to do that!
I am a SAHM now but usually I only got Christmas off. I HATED it because DH is a teacher so he has a huge winter break, and I had to work. This year is going to be amazing because we'll get to enjoy his break with our family!

I had to do it two different times, but working retail on xmas eve at 4am is not fun either. Or working bars on new years eve... I've had to work a lot of holidays.
I voted No, I'm a SAHM. However, my H who works for a major credit card company doesn't automatically get the day off. He usually takes off the week after Christmas, so whether or not he takes Christmas Eve off depends on what day of the week it falls on. This year since its on a Monday, he will probably take the day off since that would end up being the only day he'd work that week.
At any rate, he comes home super early--like 2 or 3:00 on years that he has worked that day.

The company I work for gives 2 paid days off for Christmas and New Years. Most of the time it ends up being Christmas eve and Christmas day. Sometimes we end up working 1/2 day on Christmas eve if it falls on a Wednesday because they don't want us to have to come in on the Friday. I always take the time off between Christmas and New years because I only end up having to use 3 or 4 vacation days and end up with over a week off!!

One of the perks of being a teacher is never working (Christian) holidays. (I am Jewish, but my district does not give us off for the Jewish High Holy Days).

No, I don't have it off, but it's not because I have a mean employer:) I'm a pastor...second busiest day of the year. It comes with the territory...
