April 2012 Moms

School drop-off Mums & their outfits

I'm new to this as DS1 just started preschool in July.  I've been taking mental notes and it seems like the Mums fall into 2 categories.  This is at 8.30 in the morning, btw.

1. Expensive workout clothes with full makeup & hair (whether they are going to the gym afterwards remains unclear)

2. Skinny jeans, ballet flats, loose tops + scarves, designer sunglasses

My BFF & I try to look decent.. she has a baby also so sometimes we rock up with spit-up & baby in pajamas on hip.

End of randoms!:)

ETA: and here is a pic of DS1 in his new summer uniform starting Sept 1st

  • Yeah, I never fit into either one of those categories, lol. As long as I made it out of the house as semi-presentable, I was good to go.

Yeah.  I'm not always able to shower beforehand so then I go in workout gear as a cover & pretend like I'm about to go workout;)

  • It's like this at DS1's school as well.  I don't fit into these categories either and it kinda makes me feel bad.  They all stand around chatting and sipping lattee's while I'm rushing to drop off DS2 and get to work by 8:30.

    Such a cute photo.

I live basically on the grounds of an elementary school and now that I work from home I have observed this crowd. It seems to exist on both hemispheres. Maybe when both girls are in grade school I will appear to have it together? Although I've never enjoyed scarfs. Hmmm

I try to wear scarves but I always end up feeling like I'm being strangled.  Or perhaps it's DS2 pulling on it..?

  • Ok, I am a bit embarrassed but I will freely admit to making sure I am dressed nicely/looking good at drop off (7:55 AM!) and my fall outfit of choice is skinny jeans/ballet flats/long cardi, or my gym clothes if I am heading to the gym right after. And I usually have a latte in hand.....

......running and hiding, now. I am not pretentious, I swear, I am just one of those people that feels more comfortable dressed up a little, hair/make up one, etc. I don't wear heels, though! :)

It's ok, don't be embarrassed:)  You should be proud for getting it together at 7.55!!  I am impressed.

  • I suppose that is the (very small) silver lining to DS2 deciding 4:30 is his new wake up time - lots of time to get ready in the morning, lol!

  • I picked up my middle school sister in ghetto gym clothes this week, she was horrified... Wish I looked cute/ put together in gym clothes! I was just glad to make on time between breastfeeding and potty training I am never on time!

  • They aren't going to the gym.

Also, the picture is soooooo adorable and the uniform is cute as hell.

  • As a former elementary school teacher---that sounds about right.  Although at my last school, there was a third group---tapered high-waisted mom jeans, white Reeboks/Keds, and a solid color knit top :)

  • My daycare drop off clothes are the clothes I wear to grad school. I try to dress decent so I don't look like an undergrad, lol. So it's usually jeans and some sort of striped top from anthro or J.Crew (being real: I seem to only wear stripes, not sure why), and ballet flats. But every day that I don't have school, I wear yoga pants and solid v-neck teeshirts.

It seems the summer must-have for all the moms in my area is those dang Nike running shorts. Funnily enough, all the undergrads wear them too. Undergrad uniform seems to be: sorority or college shirt, Nike shorts, Chaco sandals, Kavu backpack.

Interesting.  I am off to google these Nike running shorts.  I can't picture them.

Oh and I also wear a lot of stripes!  It's a problem.  We can start a club.  DH makes fun of me whenever I come back from buying something, Oh, you got more stripes! what a surprise.

  • I always WISH I was in one of those categories, ever (don't do school drop off, but still!).  I am not the right kind of girl to pull of the scarf look.  I wish I was.

The gym clothes - I have nice ones.  However they still don't fit.  You don't look "put together" in lumpy gym clothes.  You look like you NEED to go to the gym (which I do).

And looks like your DS wears stripes too:) dressed by mum!  Everyone in our house wears stripes because I do the clothes shopping.  We are a very stripey family.  Is there a 12-step program for all of us stripe addicts?

  • I don't do school drop offs since I only have one baby but I already know I will be the bedraggled lady with a messy ponytail and non cool sweatpants when it does happen. I do manage to look half decent for work but it's because I have to. In general I'm quite a slob

Ive always been envious of those women who always look so put together no matter what the time of day/occasion ... People who "accessorize". I don't own any accessories lol
