Messing with Sleep!

How do you recover / help LO recover after weird interruptions in sleep habits (sickness, traveling, etc.)?

It seems like once we've done some sleep training and DD has settled into a nice sleep routine she either gets sick (and I get all mushy and go in a love her and cuddle with her and nurse her to sleep), or we go on vacation and I have to just do whatever I can to get her to sleep in a hotel room, or something else interrupts her nice schedule...then we get home, and her sleep goes all crazy and she's up every few hours wanting me to put her to sleep.  I'm hating having to do this sleep training all over again, and it seems like it gets harder every time.  Anyone else have this issue?  Just me?

TIA

  • I am in the same boat. with teething, stranger anxiety, travel and learning how to walk plus a new baby cousin throwing our schedule off DS has been a mess. I really don't want to cio again but think we might have too. I am waiting till some of this craziness dies down. Possibly after he's got the walking thing down. I really don't want to sleep train again. It's so hard :( Maybe I'll just rock him to sleep till he's 18. LOL

  • When he gets overtired, I put him to bed about 30-60 min early.  It takes a few days, but this usually helps him get back to 'normal'.  We did CIO to get him to fall asleep on his own, and sometimes he will still cry for up to 10 min.  I haven't yet tackled the night wakings because we seem to always be catching up (just got home from a trip, teething, etc).  When he is overtired, he will wake 4-5 times at night.  When he's well rested, it's only about 2 times - these nights seem to be few and far between lately.  Good luck!
