Planning Pregnancy

For those of you who planned your pregnancies, can you recommend any good, basic resources for planning?  Are any of TB's fertility trackers worth checking out?

I am a little embarrassed to admit that I know nothing about tracking fertility, other than that the most fertile time is 14 days before the first day of your next period.  We did no planning to conceive DD; we stopped preventing, and I was pregnant within three months.  This time around, though, we are hoping to plan for a summer/fall baby for next year, as that would align well with DH being off of school.  If last time was any indication, I don't see any challenges with TTC; but I figure it doesn't hurt to improve my knowledge and increase our chance of success :)

I did take a look around on the TTGP board, and I was a little overwhelmed.  So I thought I'd start here and see if you ladies had any resources to recommend.  TIA!

  • Another vote for Taking Charge of Your Fertility. That's pretty much all I relied on (specifically info about how to recognize when ovulation is about to occur).

  • I'll second the Fertility Friend recc!  That can be overwhelming too, but just go through one tutorial at a time.

Taking Charge of Your Fertility is a good read though - there is SO much we aren't taught about our bodies that is kinda crucial information to know!

  • Another person in favor of Taking Charge of Your Fertility! I am half way through reading it in preparation for TTC the next baby.

  • I used OPKs because my cycles are very regular not that you can't use them if they aren't I did the same thing with DS and got pregnant the first month. This time the second month trying. I think they are good to help pinpoint your fertile window not just O. I used them for a few months before we were really trying to see a pattern.
  • I highly recommend the Fertility Friend website. I got pregnant the first cycle with both pregnancies using Fertility Friend. I have a link in my signature showing both of those cycles, if you'd like to take a peek. The tutorials are really great, too. Good luck!

Since you really don't know how everything works I would suggest the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It's like an indepth anatomy/biology lesson written in an easy to read way.

This! I got pregnant my first cycle after reading through this book.

  • <--- Another fan of fertility friend

When my period returned after DD1, my cycles were all out of whack, but thanks to FF, we got pregnant the 3rd cycle.

  • I love charting BBT (FertilityFriend .com, basal body temperature).  Worked like a charm for me to determine my cycle pattern and then figure out my body's signals to predict O easily enough.  I have a regular 29-day cycle, but am a late ovulator CD18 on average so I am fertile CD13 to CD19.  My BFF has the exact same cycle length but O's early so is fertile CD7 to CD13.   I wasn't crazy about OPKs.  GL!

  • I really like the 'My Days' app. Very helpful figuring out your most fertile times.
