One of my good friends is coming to visit on Friday and she has an outbreak of fever blisters on her mouth (eeks!). I have never gotten a fever blister and do not carry the disease (Herpes simplex).
So from what I understand, the baby is more at risk if I were to contract this from her since I've never had any exposure to it before vs someone who was pregnant and already carried the disease.
Is this something I need to be really worried about? Or do you think common sense (not sharing glasses, etc) is fine? I'm totally freaked out but she already has her plane ticket!!
Re: Avoiding Exposure to Fever Blisters
Don't lick the inside of her mouth
Cold sores/fever blisters/canker sores are highly contagious but you have to come in contact with her blister somehow. I wouldn't worry!
"Direct skin-to-skin contact is the easiest mode through which fever blisters spread from one person to another. Apart from direct contact with the open sore, saliva or droplets in the breath, and contaminated articles such as utensils, cup, lipstick or lip balm applicator, toothbrush, face towel, etc., when shared, may cause the transmission."
Ha! Okay, good advice.
I am going to totally avoid anything like towels, etc as well. I am totally freaking out about this even though it's probably not that big of a deal.

I get them and DH has never gotten one from me (he's never had one before). I wouldn't be concerned.
What she said. I get them and mh has never gotten them from me even tho he has kissed me when I've had them a few times. Unless you plan to make out with your friend or share her drink you should be just fine
