ER and ET questions

How many days did you take off for the ER?  I am currently just taking the day of ER off.

How many days did you take off for the ET?  If we do a 3dt is should be a Saturday and I'm supposed to go to work on Monday.  If its a Monday transfer I have Tuesdays off and I'm supposed to go back on Wednesday.  Is 2 days, the day of transfer and the next day enough to rest?

Thanks!

After 4.5 years our miracle IVF baby is here!

Re: ER and ET questions

  • my dr. likes 3 days of bed rest. but 2 should be enough  - there is so many different opinions on this.

  • I took off 1 day for ER (you will be under anesthesia, so highly unlikely you will be productive afterwards and you aren't allowed to drive anyway).

For ET I just took the day of ET off (it was a Thursday).  Then Friday I worked from home (i.e. from couch) and just took it easy.  My clinic doesn't really require bedrest, just no strenuous activity, but each clinic has there own policies.

  • Every clinic is different and many women on here seem to have different opinions. My ER wasn't typical because I developed OHSS so I don't know what the norm feels like but I have read a lot of women say they were fine to work the next day. However, I have also read from quite a few ladies who said several days later they were still in discomfort. As for the ET my clinic requires bed rest the day of ET and the following day.

In the end every woman is different and you should do what your body is telling you. Some people recuperate quicker then others etc...

  • I plan to take a day off for ER and a day off for ET. I work from home (computer work) so I figure it should be fine I start work a day after these procedures. I think working will help me pass the time quicker because we all know how hard the 2ww is!

  • I lucked out with ER because it happened on a Saturday so I had two days to kick back. I would have probably taken that second day off just because I felt so bloated and crappy, though. I only took one day for ET.
  • I felt like CRAP after ER. Not in pain, but grossly uncomfortable. It took 4 days for me to feel normal again. ET I was fine, but we did 24 hours of BR and then very limited activity for 2 days.

This will also depend on what type of job you have - desk job, construction job, etc.

  • I took off day of and the day after for ET. I think I had a pretty easy experience, and probably could have gone back to work the next day, but it was nice to relax and recuperate.

For ET, I am doing the same, day of and day after. My clinic wants you to be a couch potato for two days, and then to take it easy. I don't really understand why, but I will listen. :)

I would at least give yourself the option of more time after ER, depending on how you feel. I should think 2 days off for ET should be okay. GL!

  • I have a related question -- how far in advance did you know the date of ER and ET?  My impression is that, like IUI, you don't know exactly when you're going to be ready until a couple of days beforehand, but I just wanted to confirm with women who've been there.  My boss knows what's going on and is totally prepared for me to take two days (ER and ET) within a week without a lot of notice, so it will be fine either way, but I'm just curious.

    ET #1: 1 blast = BFP; Blighted ovum discovered at 7w5d; D&E
    FET #1: 1 blast = BFP; Missed m/c discovered at 9w5d; D&E
Karyotyping: normal ~ RPL Testing: normal ~ Hysteroscopy: normal
    FET #2: 1 blast transferred 10/25; BFP 10/31!

I think I had 3 days notice (they told me to trigger the next day) for ER, but I believe two is also common. They give you a projected date, but you don't know for sure till you get there. As for ET, my RE only does 5 day transfers, so I knew it would either be today or not at all. If yours does 3 and 5, I don't think you know for sure until early day 3 sometimes.

Not being able to schedule things in advance can be really frustrating! :)

Yeah.  I'm used to it, though. :)

Thanks.  Sounds like it's pretty much what I thought.  My RE does 3 and 5 day transfers, so I'll have to wait and see.  I was told I only need to take the day of ER and the day of ET off, but now I'm tempted to take more...
