We had to sleep train again and so far, so good. LO was nursing up to 3x per night. He was going to bed at 730 and waking at 11, 2, and 5. We are down to one session at around 430 am. In order to see how much he was taking, DH gave him a bottle the other morning. He drank 5 oz. We gave him bottles all day that day. He ate 28 oz of formula and/or BM plus 3 solids meals of 3.5 oz each. I know we need to start dropping the milk intake and increasing the solids but I how much more solids should he be eating throughout the day?
Also, if we let him CIO I think we are in for it. If he potentially cries for an hour this puts him at 530 am and some days I have to get him up at 615. I know he is going to be super tired. From what I read, he needs to stay up so he doesn't associate milk with going back to sleep. Anyways, if you have weaned from this early morning session, what did you do?
Re: How to drop early a.m.eating session
No real advice here but we are still doing 1 overnight session. He was up to like 3 overnight sessions around 5-6 months but we got him back down to one. He goes down around 8, wakes once to nurse between 4am and 6am (every night is different) and then goes back to sleep until 8am.
I wake up starving if I haven't eaten in 9+ hours so I am assuming DS is hungry when he wake up LOL.
Does he go back down easily after that one nursing session? You might just want to stick with it...
He does go back down easily. The problem is that he will stick with this time for a week or so then starts pushing the wake up time earlier and earlier. Then it becomes two overnight nursing sessions and we are back to square one.
This is what is happening to us too! We had her down to one session and then she started standing up and crawling so she kept waking hourly and sometimes the easiest and fastest way to get her back to sleep was to nurse her and now we're back to two feedings.
I need to start having DH soothe her back to sleep during the first wake up and only feed her during the second wake up.
