Mobiles from ceiling or clip to crib?

We don't have a mobile. I saw one I liked on etsy; however, it hangs from the ceiling. I've never ever noticed a mobile hang from the ceiling until I just went searching for pictures today. Is it really that common nowadays?

I like the idea because this seller on etsy is willing to make a puppy  mobile in the colors of my choice I haven't found anything else, so I figured we'd survive on the home spa medics thing b/c it also has something that shines on the ceiling. But now that I've found this seller, and I love the puppy mobile could be in our nursery colors (girlying up a puppy room has been challenging, to say the least!) makes me happy. But it's like $90! Dh thinks I'm nuts, but said if I can't live without it, then he's fine with it. I've just never ever seen these mobiles that hang from the ceiling! Do you have one like that? Are they safe?

    We got an adorable mobile that matched DD1's bedding, but never used it because it clipped on the crib and royally scratched it up.  Fast forward to 3 years later and it's scratched up anyway, but I'm thinking one that goes into the ceiling might be less damaging to your furniture.  the $90 price tag is a whole other story though, I'm not sure I'd be ok with that!

    We got one that clips to the crib, and I'm on the hunt for something to prevent it from scratching it before I install it

    For DS we had one that clipped to the crib.  But we are making one for DD that will hang from the ceiling.  I love the whimsical look it adds to the room!

    I made a mobile which turned out way more expensive than just purchasing one would have been... but it will hang from the ceiling as well.

    I like this idea as I can shorten and keep it for decor in the room when she is older and in destructive mode.

     I have not installed it yet, but I bought a ceiling hook and intend to use some clear fishing line around the pretty ribbon bow to ensure it is securely attached to the hook. I didn't use any small or loose pieces that could fall off, so I feel pretty comfortable hanging it above the crib as long as it's secured to the hook properly.

    My lap top isn't working, can't copy and paste from my phone. But on etsy, type in 'puppy mobile'. It's $95 (eeek!) and shop owner is hing or hingmade. Something like that.
