NBR: Grocery budget

Just curious, what is your grocery budget? We'be been spending way to much on food no idea how much, but before baby I would cook all sorts of stuff with no regard to cost; leg of lamb, pricey seafood, etc.. Now I want to budget better, but I'm still estimating nearly 600 a month.

Re: NBR: Grocery budget

  • We spend 50 a week, maximum but we eat a lot of cheap foods just out of habit, lol...tuna fish, vegetables, rice, tortillas, ham, stuff we grew up on. I can't imagine spending 600 on food!!! But it's just the two of us, so I'm sure if we had a family it'd be more.

  • For the 3 of us (me, dh and ds #1), I spend $50-$60 per week.  I don't really eat meat so we probably spend less because of that.

The bad thing is that it is just 2 people eating! I was figuring up 7 for dinner, 7 for lunch, and 4 for breakfast. 18 a day. That's almost 550 a month and no snacks included!

  • I am horrible when it comes to what we spend on groceries. We try to keep it at 600/month but typically hit 800. It's just 3 of us...but I buy mostly organic and I cook and bake a TON.

  • It used to be 200 every other week for DH and I. Now that DS eats real foods it has gone up close to 300 every other week. I try to get as much of his stuff organic as possible, so that adds up. Normally, I am happy if it is under $260.

  • We probably spend about $400 to $500 a month. I shop about every other week and it ends up being about 150-200 a shop. Plus any extra stuff we pick up. We don't eat red meat or pork, so I think that helps. Lately I have spent a lot less because I am making more simple meals.

  • Probably 400 a month for me, my husband, my 8 yo and my mom and not counting the baby. Sometimes less sometimes more. But that's the average.

  • 800 per month for 5 ppl and a dog. This does not even include most of the meat we eat because I buy that from an organic farmer! This does include household items and alcohol.
  • About 350400 A month max. It feeds me big veggie and meat eater, normally working out 45 days a week with intensity... When I'm not in my 6 week probation lol, and hubby ex football player, big man with a big appetite, trains as much as I do if not more, as he lifts more, I do more cardio. Baby on bm only so no formula costs in there ATM.

  • We spend about 200 a month. Including pet food and household supplies.

We used to spend 50 more every month but I started price matching and shopping around a little more.

  • We're at an average of $600 a month too.  That doesn't include pet food, alcohol, or other household items.  We do eat mostly organic with a lot of fresh fruits, chicken and fish, no red meat, no pork.  That also doesn't include DH's one lunch out a week, nor our one dinner out a week.

  • I coupon and for 3 people we spend 200 a month for everything. Now with the babies' formula its def going to go up. We spend 35 dollars in 4 days on formula right now. So say 280 a month for formula. Yeah, expensive little boogers lol.

That is insane. We buy most of our fruits and veggies from a local fruit market and it's no where near as expensive as these other ladies are quoting...I might spend $20 on 4 bags full of fruits and vegetables, plus SO has a small garden going in the backyard. We buy our meat from a Hispanic market by SO's parent's house where it's dirt cheap because they sell so much of it. Other than that, it's all small snacks or cheap foods like mac & cheese that I grew up on being raised by a single mom who never paid over $2 for one item, haha.

  • We have 5 eating people in our family and we budget $75 a week. It's tough sometimes to come up with more budget-friendly meal ideas, but pinterest has really helped lately with lots of great blogs and recipes.

I should add, this includes household items and liquor, not just food.

  • We are probably at $600/mo as well. That includes cat food, alcohol, and household items like tp or cleaning supplies. It does not include the insane amt of money we spend on eating out and takeout. Food is easily our largest expense after rent and that's just DH and I! I'm thinking about couponing and limiting takeout to 1x/month. Dinners out have (obviously) disappeared since LO arrived.

  • I'm a big coupon shopper so we probably spend 200-300 a month on groceries max.  I buy my fruit from farmers markets and I'm not a big meat eater so that saves a lot of money monthly as well.

Yup, about $50-75 a week here too for our family of 3 (LO doesn't count in that budget yet, lol)

  • I really have no idea how much we spend on food but I am a bit of a food snob.  I buy fruits and veggies, organic whenever possible p, from either the Farmer's Market or Whole Foods. We don't eat a lot of meat but I only buy grass fed beef and free range local chicken.  I also only purchase wild caught, never farmed, fish. Yes, it costs more money but it is a priority for us and we are fortunate to be able to afford it.  I refuse to eat or to serve the typical American processed, additive filled supermarket foods.
