A friend of the family just dropped off some clothes and 2 of the smocked outfits have a stain on the embroidered part. Idea how to get it out or not even bother?

The smocked stuff I had was machine washable. I just put stain remover on it and ran through the wash. Sometimes I sun them.
Try using Lestoil - you can usually find it at Home Depot or somewhere similar. It is a heavy duty cleaner - smells like oil. WORKS WONDERS! I've used it on clothing and it has gotten out every stain - even those that had been through the drier.
