Flying for the first time next week...advice needed!

Taking LO up north next week and it's our first time flying with him.  I am anxious about the trip as I am an anxious traveler in general LOL.  Anyways, it is a non-stop flight (Ft. Lauderdale to Boston, less then 3 hours) and we timed it after his first nap so he would be in a good mood.

I am bringing a bottle of BM on the plane incase he won't nurse on take-off or landing. I am bringing snacks, toys, ipad, anything to keep him entertained.

We are staying with my cousin and she is picking us up from the airport and has EVERY baby thing we will need.  Car seat,  pnp, stroller, we basically only need to bring clothes and diapers.  Am I totally screwing myself by not bringing our stroller with us to use in the airport?? We are checking our bags so will only have 1 carry-on (with baby stuff in it for the flight) and my purse so we won't have tons to carry.  Thoughts???

  • I plan to wear E in my Ergo through the airport when we travel to Hawaii next month.  I would rather use a carrier than stroller, just my personal preference.

  • Biggest DUH moment ever. Seriously what is wrong with me.  Definitely bringing the bjorn and my moby so my husband and I can take turns.
  • Since you have a carrier you should be fine.  One thing I would also pack in your carry on would be a spare outfit just in case.  Have fun.  We went to London when DD was 6 months and Mexico when she was 9 months and it was a breeze.  It was much more difficult going to FL with her when she was 22 months!

  • I flew with DD and we were in the same situation. Really, you dont need a stroller at the airport if you have a carrier. On the trip back they didn't even make me take the carrier off to go through security. Flying was much easier than I thought that it would be.

  • I would also recommend a change of shirt for you, especially if LO will be in your lap. My flight was longer than yours (not sure how much difference that makes), but sometimes the change in altitude does icky things to a baby's tummy.

  • Wear something that is super easy to nurse in, and a pattern would be preferable in case you get a little messy.  I put Mj on the boob just before take off (once we were moving)  and just before landing.  Walk with him in the aisle when you can for a change of scenery, and let him get out his crawling while you are waiting to board! Mainly just stay calm and he will be too.

Do you have a baby carrier? I've flown twice with C and I always just wear him in the airport, I've never brought a stroller.

We used a carrier too and it worked really well just needed some help in security getting it on and off but other than that it was easy. I would also get a couple new toys and not give it to him till you're on the plane to keep him entertained. We also fed him during take off and made sure he sucked on his pacifier. Good luck, my DS did great so hopefully you'll have no problems :)

Definitely this! And bring 1-2 spare outfits for LO too.  We've flown with LO a few times and one time on our way to check-in, she had a blow-out.  I didn't find out until I had to carry her through security and by that time, both her outfit and my shirt were messed up!  I'm so glad I had a spare shirt!  I'm also glad that I was wearing a T-shirt that I didn't care about, because I ended up trashing it along with her dirty outfit.

I agree with PPs suggestion to wear LO at the airport.  Also you don't have to take LO out of the carrier to go through security.  They'll scan your hands though.

    Good luck!
