Let's talk about bedtime routines.... Again

I'm thinking of adding in a bath before bed because this whole nursing thing isn't going to last forever.  But I'm not sure how to fit it all in. Move dinner earlier?

What does your routine look like? (With times, please.)

  • I still consider her bottle to be part of bedtime, even though it's about an hour before bed now, because it sort of starts her calming down time, and everything is pretty routine from bottle time on:

    7:15 - 7:30ish - 6 oz bottle, bath/brush teeth, PJ's, storytime

she's usually in bed around 8:30.

Sometimes she plays a little more after her bottle or once she has her PJs on, but not usually.  When I give her that bottle, I usually have her finishing it on her changing table while I'm getting her undressed for bath because at least she sits still with a bottle!

  • This adjusts by 30 minutes depending on when the day started, how naps go, ect.

    5:00 Dinner

5:306:00 playtime while I clean up dinner

If it's a bath day, every other day,
6:007:00 Baths for the boys, pick up upstairs, and get pjs laid out. If not a bath day we just all play.

7:007:30 Wind down time, spend time with their daddy.

7:308:00 Lotion, jammies, songs, rocking in the chair with nursing time getting shorter each day.

    8:00 In bed

  • We eat dinner around 6 and he drinks milk from a sippy with his meal. Then we play and some nights give him a bath. Then he goes into his bed around 7-7:15. That's it! I weaned him last week from his morning and night feedings so he's totally done with bottles, breast milk and drinking milk while being rocked altogether. And we LOVE it so far :)

  • 5:30 is dinner time.

After dinner is play time. Whether inside or outside.

Around 8pm we read a few books, then it's bath time. Sometimes she isn't quite ready to start the bedtime routine until 8:30, but we leave that up to her mood.

We play in the bath for a little while. Then PJs, bottle, brush teeth. Bedtime prayers and kisses. She goes down awake. She's in bed normally by 9pm.

  • We get home from work/ daycare pretty late-- usually between 6:30 and 7. She has some late food at DC, so sometimes we just call it a day with her meals, but if she hasn't eaten well I'll add an extra meal at night (I really should get on a better schedule with meals). Usually we play until she starts getting grumpy, usually around 7:30-8, then it's 1) change diaper/ into jammies, 2) read stories together, 3) sing a song (always the same one!), 4) bedtime. She does baths in the AM, and hasn't had a nighttime bottle in a long time. For us, that's been a solid routine and she definitely knows it's bedtime by the time we are singing our song.

We don't eat dinner until after she goes to bed. We'll probably switch things up and try to all eat dinner as a family earlier on now that she is getting most of her nutritional needs met from her solid foods, and therefore should probably be getting bigger dinners.

  • A has a suuuuper late bedtime (earlier than before, believe it or not!) so this might not work for you.

    Somewhere between 5-6 dinner.

8:00 bath (if it's bath day)

8:15 play/read books with Daddy (if he's home)

8:30 bedtime book, nurse, rock & sing song, then in crib

  • Dinner 5:45 or so (H cooks while I feed O, then we eat when she's done)

Bath btwn 6-6:45 (whenever we finish eating)

Bottle 7:00. If she's wired and not taking the bottle nicely, I let her play for 10 minutes in her room (not too many toys up there so she doesn't get over stimulated) while I put away her laundry and/or weed out too small clothes from the drawers.

If she takes the bottle well, it's usually books & teeth, lights out at 7:30.

If she's not taking the bottle well, lights out is at 8. Gotta admit that while I don't love it getting darker earlier now, it makes it easier to shut out the light in her room and her "knowing" it's time for bed. She'll settle in her crib and talk to her animals (singing lullaby critters in her crib).

  • 5:00- Dinner

After dinner, we go for a wagon ride( or stroller, weather permitting) and walk the dogs. Back by 6:30

    6:30- Bath time, jammies

7- Cuddle time and story with daddy

7:30- Nurse-- ok, and this is wear it gets difficult for us that didn't sleep train early (kicking ourselves in the arse) I nurse A to sleep, then wait 15 minutes to make sure she's out cold, then pass her off to dh, then he waits 15 minutes, then puts her to bed. Indifferent rediculous, eh? She always wake up when I try to put her down!

    8/8:15- She's in bed!

  • 6pm - dinner with a sippy of water
6:30pm - bath (he gets so dirty from daycare/feeding himself)
7pm - nursing, story, bed (he's great at going down awake- finally!)

I'm trying to figure out where I want to put the milk sippy in when I wean.  He gets it all over himself when he drinks too quickly, so I'm thinking after the bath is not the best idea.

  • I am going to change up his routine based on some recommendations by my pedi but right now it is pretty much like this:

    6:00 PM - dinner

    7:15 PM - bath

    7:45 PM - bottle

    8:00 PM - bed

  • We do dinner around 6 and then normally we would go for a walk but our road is all torn up so lately we just go to the backyard and play for a bit. Bath by 7. Bottle and a bit of play and a book, and bed at 8.

  • 5:45 Dinner (I'd actually like it to be later since it is hard for us to eat with her this early).

    6:10 Bath (every other day)

    6:30 Stories then nursing

    7:00 Asleep

*I don't plan to cut out the nursing yet as I'm working on dropping other feeds first.
