Wills, have you done them?

We FINALLY got our wills finalised today.  2 kids and we've only just gotten to it *shame*

Setting up a trust, plus all the power of attorney/executor & medical stuff cost a grand total of $3K.  Sheesh!  But at least now I feel like we can drop off our twig and the kids will be provided for.

Have you done yours?  I'm thinking it's probably way cheaper in the US.  What are the going rates there?

  • DH has one because the military requires it....I've only read it once because it was so depressing. I suppose I should get to writing mine....

  • Ugh, we have not. It's one of those things I want to do but then never seem to get around to researching it properly.

And I love your Aussie sayings! Drop off your twig. haha!

  • For my job, well, old job, I dealt with a lot of people with trust and I must say, it makes things 100x's easier for the living if there is a will. You don't have to worry about so many things that you would have to without a will. I at least have beneficairies set up on all of my individual accounts. I know that setting up a trust here can cost a whole lot. I think it just depends on how much you have in assets and how complex it all is, revocatble vs irrevocable. I wish I had enough money right now to were I should set up a trust... someday...

Well it's not that we have a ton of money *right now* that requires a trust, but DH has a massive life insurance policy.  So if he were to go then we would.. or I would, rather! heheh.

  • No we haven't. We are terribly unorganized. Not only do we need to get the will set up we also need to get a life insurance policy. All we have right now is the freebie plan my work offers. So if one of us kicks the bucket the other gets 50k. Whoop deedo.

My husbands sister passed away very unexpectedly this year. Besides it being probably THE Most horrible thing that we have ever experienced, it was was made much worse by the fact that they had not yet set up a life insurance policy. Since they were both self employed and were basically just living paycheck to paycheck while both their businesses got off the ground, when it happened it was crippling not just emotionally but also financially. They had ZERO life insurance and a 4 month old baby.

It makes me think, I need to really get on this life insurance thing and also the will/choosing who will take care of her if we both die.

How do I vote for Eden in this competition? She is so very adorable in that picture, I want to vote for her!
