Pregnant after a Loss

AW: Saw the heartbeat!

I'm SO happy (and relieved!) - we had an u/s this morning and saw the heart beating away at 176 bpm!  So I am officially the most pregnant I've ever been!  :)

The only strange thing was that the tech found that I have two uteruses - apparently not common but not rare either.  The doctor came in and did an internal, and he said that I only have one cervix but do indeed have two uteruses.  He said that it's not really a concern until the 3rd tri when it can cause pre-term labor (because each of the two uteruses are smaller than one normal one is, so the baby runs out of room to grow, turn, etc.).  I was really worried at first, but he said that with medical technology these days, premature babies have a much higher chance of surviving - I guess that's true and something I can take comfort in should I go into labor early!

Does anyone else have this "problem"?  I've heard of bicornate uteruses, but never of two!

  • Congrats on the good appt! Wow 2 uteruses or is it uteri? Oh well that is something I have never heard of...but glad they know now so they can make sure to watch you carefully...is it possible for you to have been having twins each one in a different uterus?

I think you're right that it is "uteri".  I guess twins would be possible if I had released one egg out of each ovary, but since that rarely happens, I don't think I have any better chance of having twins than anyone else.  I just really pray that this doesn't cause any serious complications over the next 7 months...

  • YAY, that's such great news!  I don't have any advice on the uterus thing (never heard of that before!), but hopefully the doc will just be monitoring you more closely to make sure all is well.
