Yes, DS is still swaddled. We tried a couple weeks back to break it and we were utterly unsuccessful. Even though DS can now roll both ways, I am a firm believer in him letting us know when he is ready to break it. For safety reasons, the monitor is just a tad bit louder than it usually is, and we swaddled him and put him on his stomach with us in the room to see what he did.
Anyway, just now and yesterday he has squirmed so much after a motn feeding, and has slept better with either one or both arms out. I think he is telling us that he is ready. Well, almost ready.
Re: Another breaking the swaddle post
I was pretty firm on waiting until DS was ready. We started swaddling one arm out at about 3 months because he needed a fist to suck on, but we did that for over a month. One night he rolled over completely to his belly when he was 4 months, so we had to quit the next night. But he was ready
It went so much better than I thought, and now he's quite the content belly sleeper.
Good luck!
It made me so sad to unswaddle
she's always slept so well swaddled. I mean, slept 5 hours then woke then slept etc. (she has never STTN swaddled or not).
But she did start rolling over to belly in it and that freaked me out. Plus she'd break out of it often especially if I had done it (hubby was better at it). To be honest our unswaddling didn't go great, and I resorted to putting her back in the rnp for almost a month (unswaddled at 3 months).
About maybe 3 weeks ago she started sitting so far forward in the rnp that freaked us out and then we had to get rid of that. The first night of her being flat and unswaddled was not great. She would NOT go to sleep. She was freaking out. However, after she fell asleep maybe 2 hours later than normal, the rest of the night was pretty normal (2 night wakings for food). And the next night she went down easily enough.
So I would say I was very pleasantly surprised!
Maybe it will not be as bad as you expect! Good luck!
