Pregnant after a Loss

Zofran questions for nausea.

I'm about 14 weeks a long and have not been feeling well the whole time.  I initially got unisom a while back and took it twice for nausea but didn't like the fact that its a sleep aide.  My doctor prescribed the generic form of zofran the other day and I'm hesitant to take it.  I was reading the side effects and now I'm paranoid.  Did any one else feel this way?  I just worry about how much research is done on this stuff with pregnancy.  I just feel drained between the nausea and the headaches.  I thought by the second trimester things would be better....:(

Re: Zofran questions for nausea.

  • The only side effect I've had from zofran is constipation. Other than that I've taken it several times without issue, and I have a few friends who took it daily during their pregnancies and have healthy babies. Keep in mind that malnutrition and dehydration are bad for baby too, so sometimes it's important to do what you need to do to keep hydrated and healthy.

  • The only effect Zofran had on me was constipation, and occasionally helped with my nausea.  For me Unisom has been way better.

My SIL took Zofran daily with her first 2 children and they are perfectly healthy children.  She was incredibly ill with her 3rd so she was on a constant Zofran drip AND took Unisom daily from 6-9 months, again perfectly healthy child.

  • I took zofran for almost the entire 2nd tri with DS and he's fine (he'll be one in a few days).  I'm taking it again with this one.  For some reason I experience more nausea in the 2nd tri than the 1st.  I haven't really noticed any side effects except for constipation and headaches.  I take colace for the constipation and just try and ride out the headache.  I will very rarely take tylenol if it's a really bad one.  I think you're fine to take it.  It will make you feel so much better!

  • I was equally concerned about the side effects of Zofran, but, ultimately, talking to tons of friends that had taken it during their pregnancies and now have healthy babies helped me to take the plunge.

Unfortunately, it didn't really help my nausea much. : (
