I know, another sleep related post. Feel free to ignore, it's mostly just venting anyway.
I'm juuuuust about at my wits end with respect to sleep. Things are just starting to get ridiculous. We just got through nearly an hour of ear splitting screaming trying to get mister cranky pants back to sleep.
He nursed to sleep no problem and stirred after half an hour like he does every night. Normally we pop the soother in, pay his head and he's good for at least another 30 to 60 minutes. Generally we rinse and repeat and he finally settles for a few hours.
Not tonight. Neither H or I could calm him. I finally caved and nursed him, and he ate hungrily for 6 or 7 minutes before falling asleep, but as soon as I tried to move him for the burp I knew he needed it was screaming bloody murder again.
I always thought I'd be against CIO methods, but I haven't slept for longer than 2 hours in a row in weeks, usually much less, and I feel like all I do every day is just sit at home trying to get him to sleep.
Anywho, that's my pity party.
Re: Something has to give
For a month or so I was feeding P a bottle of pumped milk just to make sure he was getting enough. Now I know his max and I feel comfortable with just nursing him again.
I'd be at my wits end too. I'm so sorry for you!
I'd try the pumped milk too and see if that helps. Also, do you think he is getting sick or teething?
There are also several less stressful forms of sleep training than pure CIO if you go that route!
As for teething, I have no idea. He gnaws like a fiend and is drooling up a storm, but that's all. I've tried Tylenol a few nights and it doesn't seem to make a difference.
We might end up trying Ferber this weekend.
He'a down now, so I'm going to bed! Thanks for the suggestions and support. It helps.
Based on what you said, being no doctor, I would think Ferber would be a good shot. The worse thing that can happen is it doesn't work and you try something else later.
Hope you get a little sleep tonight!
Looks like maybe Ferber starts tonight.
I am so sorry this is still going on for you. He's so cute, but so challenging!
I was going to suggest supply issues, especially since he fell off his growth curve some. Do you still have you SNS? Could you try that?
I don't think it's a supply issue. He's back in a nice curve again, and there's lots of milk there.
On the advice of the LC we've been trying to push him to 3 hours between feeds through the day instead of 2, so maybe that's throwing him off?
Why can't babies talk? This would be so much easier if he could tell me what was wrong.
Oh, dear. I really wish he could tell you what was wrong. Does he need a different med for the reflux?
For as well as Madison sleeps, she is screaming crier so I feel your pain. Today was particularly bad. For some reason, she flips her *** for like 25% of her diaper changes. Hysterical crying with tears.
Hopefully he'll sleep soon.
We've had a cuddle, I gave him some Tylenol, maybe it is teething?, fed him again, he ate well ate had a good burp, and now we're just resting.
Apparently we don't have any other crib sheets, what I thought was a crib sheet appears to be a PnP sheet, so he's back in the PnP in our room for the night.
By some giant stroke of luck H is supposed to work from home tomorrow, so at least we'll both be able to nap.
Good luck with your sleep person!
Having H home is very good though. I just got up and an about to go back to sleep.
