F/U to the baby wearing post

I'm a FTM who is interested in baby wearing but realize some kiddos hate it.
Which type of wrap do you recommend? I know the moby is popular but it looks super complicated tried it in the store with lots of help and a baby doll, lol. I know there are others eg blue celery that might be easier to use.
TIA

Re: F/U to the baby wearing post

  • I used the moby when baby was really little, then after a few months, I used the ergo and loved it!  I STILL use the ergo, in fact, I used it just yesterday with DS.

Once you get the hang of the moby (or any wrap like the moby) it's really easy.

The Ergo is super easy, and I was able to easily breastfeed baby in it.  I also wear my son on my back all the time, and never need help getting him in the carrier.

  • I love love love my moby and so did DS. Watch the youtube video on how to tie it before you make the decision it is to complicated to use, it makes it much simpler. We also have a bjorn, which hurts my back but DH loves. I also occaisionally used a sling but the moby was still my favorite.

  • I'm a FTM too, but, I also thought the moby looked ridiculously complicated, so I looked into other wraps. Lots of people seem to like the Baby K'tan (babyktan.com), same premise, but much easier to wear. And I like that it seems to have less fabric. I registered for that through target, and then for the Ergo when baby gets a bit  bigger.
  • I think the Baby K'tan is a great option if the wrapping is intimidating. We used an UpMama which is a ring sling with a built in pocket so it is easier to use and we LOVED it.

My suggestion is not to buy one until the baby is born. Go to a local store that sells a variety of carriers and try them out. The staff there should be able to fit you and help you out. This will also give you and the baby a chance to really find the one that works for you. Some of these carriers are expensive so it is nice to get the right one.

  • The easiest by far for me was a ring sling. I wore DD high against my chest in froggy pose (chest to chest) when she was really little. I did love my moby, though, as she got bigger. It was one of the only ways to get her to sleep.
  • To start with DD I used a babyhawk. They are easy to use and last longer than the Moby. This time around I'm going to use a Ring sling and woven wrap for the newborn. I have a nice collection as I BW DD all the time. I also agree with PP, see if you can find a BW group, easierst way to try things out and if you go now you're not too big to try thing on.

  • If you start wearing your baby from day 1, I guarantee they will love it. They won't know anything else. Some days, wrapping was the only way I could get my guy to nap.

The moby is such an excellent place to start. Like others suggested, start practicing now. My bradley instructor brought out wraps one day and showed the dads how to use them so my h was a pro before Liam was even here :) and he couldn't wait to wear him, it was pretty adorable. I promise you will be able to wrap the moby in your sleep in no time ;)

www.becomingmamas.com is also a fabulous source for baby wearing info :)

  • Thank you all for your advice. I agree with the wanting to start wearing from day 1 - to get the baby used to it.

I will check out baby k'tan and look at some of the moby videos online. I have a friend who has a moby so I'll ask her what she thinks in terms of use.

We tried the Baby Bjorn and the Ergo - I told DH that from reading all of the posts on here that I've learned that Ergo is safer. Well, he liked the Ergo better anyways because it didn't hurt his back and he could feel that the weight would be more distributed. So I think we'll register for an Ergo, but I would like to buy a wrap before the baby is born (we're not having a baby shower so anything that I think I want/need asap we'll buy ourselves).
