My DS still can't seem to eat soft solids. I've tried puffs, yogurt melts, soft fruit and green beans and each time he chokes and gags on them. I'm worried about his swallow reflex. Anyone else still not able to take solids? He does just fine with oatmeal and purees but anything bigger, not so much.
I will obviously ask at his 9 mo appt, but just curious if we're the only one?
Re: Swallowing Issues?
How long have you been trying to offer him the soft solids? Maybe try making his purees gradually thicker / chunkier?
It took my DS a bit to figure it out too. He wasn't wild about any soft things I offered him until one day I mashed up a blueberry and fed it to him - he LOVED it. My baby mantra these days seems to be just keep offering new and different things until something clicks!
I agree with all of this. DD doesn't do well with the stage 2 baby foods. But I brought stage 2 1/2 one time by mistake and its a bit thicker and she loves it. GL!
Not to just echo the other two, but Josephine still has issues from time to time.
I never wanted to give her "baby food" for that reason. Sometimes when I give her something I ground up that is chunky she acts like she's choking, full on tongue out and everything, scared me the first couple times. Then I noticed nothing was back there, when I asked the Dr. he said she didn't like the texture, and to just keep trying.
Now she'll eat string cheese, green beans, soft soft carrots, chicken salad, spaghetti, mac & cheese. anything she can pick up with her fingers. But if I grind it and put it on a spoon, she gags, she only likes her baby food (purees, yogurt, cereal) on a spoon she prefers to pick everything else up.
Just keep trying, first thing I got her to like (other than puffs and yogurt bites) was green beans cooked very soft.
She really just wants to eat what we're eating, but only if it looks like what we're eating.
