What a great board! (intro)

What a neat board! I love seeing the exchange among birth parents, adoptive parents, adopted kids and more on here. So much great information shared also. Some girls on The Nest GP told me about this board and I am so happy to find it. I would like to share and comment on posts, so thought I should introduce myself.

I hit the magic 35 this year and DH hits the magic 40. I am a journalist and he is a software designer. We live in Gulf Coast area of Texas. We have always known that we wanted to adopt, but TTTC (six years) and taking care of ill parents has been chief focus the last few years while adoption dream was on back burner. Things have changed and we have had so many things in our path in the last year push us even closer to adoption, and we are clearly ready for takeoff now.

We have done some research after taking a Discovering Adoption class offered at our church, reading all the literature I could find so far, and establishing mentoring relationships with 8 other couples who have adopted. I know we have so much to learn.

At this point, we've visited about a half dozen agencies locally and researched probably 50 more and pretty much narrowed it down to one agency here in Houston. We have been rounding up all the docs for our application. We have our pre adoption counseling on Monday and looking forward to starting the next steps and this long, crazy, tumultous and hopefully happy ending journey.

Welcome! This is a great board. Everyone here has so much information and experiences to share and they are also an amazing source of support. I wish you the best in your adoption journey!
