Hello. I've been lurking for a bit, and thought I'd introduce myself.
My name is Will, and my wife and I live in New York City. She's 22 weeks pregnant with our first, due January 7. It's a girl. We are super excited. And, you know, terrified.
Welcome! Good luck with the avatar. It's annoying only having female options. I just put a stock picture from my computer but I need to get something better up there.
It really depends on where you want to go. Depending on how big the kid is, people will put the baby in the bjorn, and wear it around on the subway or bus. I've seen people take strollers on the subway. I've even seen strangers help someone carry a stroller down the stairs to the subway.
If you need to go somewhere that requires a car, there is a service called Zipcar which lets you rent a car by the hour for a certain rate, depending on the size of the vehicle.
I suppose come January my wife and I will figure out what works for us.
Don't be terrified. When the time comes around you will be surprised at how easy it is right from the get go.
Not that it is easy, but it is almost primal how we get into parent mode the minute the child is born.
I am a first-time father, and the way I manage it people probably think I have been doing this for years. You will know exactly what to do as a father the minute your baby arrives.
Enjoy the pregnancy and enjoy your free time now. Before you know it, your free time will become baby time!!
Re: Intro post? Intro post.
Hi! It doesn't come across as stupid at all.
