Dinner is ruined and DH is PO'd at me!

DH was grilling veggies and chicken for us and I just walked out to talk with him and he has a hamburger bun on the top rack and he's touching it with the flipper...and then touching the veggies...I'm GLUTEN FREE!!!!    I can't eat ANY of it now.  I asked him what he was doing with the bread and he got pissed off.  And now is expecting me to eat the food...wtf????  He has gotten crumbs all over my food.  He's usually really careful but this sucks b/c now I have nothing to eat unless I want to go to the grocery store and I can barely walk at the moment so that's not happening! Oh and he's super mad at me now and snappy.   Somehow I feel like I should be the one who's PO'd considering I'm starving, pregnant and now have no dinner!  I haven't even been grumpy about it...I did explain why this didn't fly.

  • That sucks! Was it a momentarily lapse of memory? My step mom has Celiac's and nothing can touch her food, it's been a learning curve for some... I can't believe still expects you to eat the food... He should have gotten you something else to eat.

Sorry that isn't any fun at all, hopefully you are able to find something else you can eat and stat!

  • Maybe if you pull the skin off the chicken when it's off the grill, you can still eat the chicken inside? Since that has not touched the bread at all.

  • I'm sorry, that really blows. Dh has celiac and if I screwed up dinner like that for him I would feel awful. Do you have anything you can make a sandwich? Have some cereal?

  • Sounds like my own DH's defense mechanism. When he feels really bad about screwing something up, he tends to lash out on the offensive. If I give him a few minutes, he is usually able to process everything and admit that he screwed up and feels awful about it. Could this be the same thing?

  • Its been almost four years and he's usually really good! I think I need to just ban gluten products from my house completely...just so hard with him and DS!!

As for pulling off the skin...there isn't any but even if there was I still wouldn't risk it!  I always tell people who don't understand it to imagine a person with a peanut allergy and having peanuts touch their food before eating it...not a good thing!

I'm eating questionable celery and sunbutter...This has not been a healthy day at all and I was really looking forward to some animal protein and a ton of colorful veggies!!  And I'm still hungry...fudge!!! This sucks!! Maybe I'll just drink a bunch of water and hope that fills me up.

  • Leavitt1...he's still grumpy with me and just left "my" food out and ate by himself and got in bed.  I got him a movie earlier and walked in to give it to him and he barely acknowledged me.

Ugh. I'm so sorry he's putting you through that. Men can be such children sometimes. Hugs to you, and I hope tomorrow is a better day.
