Hospitals: Waukesha vs West Allis??

Anyone have any thoughts on hospitals to deliver at?  We are expecting our second child in May and I need to find a new OB since we just moved back to WI.  I am looking at two different OB's and one delivers at West Allis and the other at Waukesha.  Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Re: Hospitals: Waukesha vs West Allis??

  • I am basing this entirely on my superficial gut feelings about the two areas. I would go with Waukesha of the two. Just in general, closer to Lake Country typically = better quality. Obviously, do your research--even tour each birthing unit, but I still say Waukesha.

  • I was deciding between the two and chose Waukesha. I have toured both facilities and felt more comfortable in Waukesha. My biggest sway was that my friend had a very difficult birth with her first child at Waukesha and she has nothing but rave reviews. They credit the neonatal unit for keeping their child alive.

Ultimately, I would say go with the doctor you are more comfortable with, both hospitals would be fine.

  • West allis women's pavilion for me! And loved it!

  • I see Dr. Scott Caldwell at West Allis in the Women Pavilion. He's awesome! He was reffered to me by a friend who loves him too. The office number is 414-329-5400.

This!  I see Dr Stephen McAvoy and really like him.  I had a not so great experience with a previous OB, but have really liked this practice.

  • I don't have experience with either one but have heard nothing but good from friends that have deliviered at West Allis.  I visited a friend once and it was more like a hotel than a hospital.

  • I delivered both of my babes at West Allis and had a great experience ... as far as OB's go, I switched to Dr. Powell after she delivered my son (not only was she not my OB at the time, but she wasn't even in the same group as my OB ... long story). She was wonderful and I have quite a few friends who see her and love her as well.

  • I just delivered at Waukesha 7 weeks ago. I can't say enough good things about my experience there. The nursing staff was amazing. I received impeccable care. The staff also took such good care of my husband during my long 18 hour labor. I vote Waukesha, hands down!
  • I say Waukesha, they have a wonderful NICU. I had an emergency csection with DD. Her heart rate was dropping and she came out unresponsive. She was intubated and in the NICU for 2 days. If the doctor had not decided to do the csection right then DD wouldn't be here today. So I'm Waukesha all the way. I will have my next LO there also.
