3rd Trimester

37 weeks, measuring 42

Last week (36w4d) I was measuring 40 weeks, yesterday (37w4d) I measured 42 weeks... I know that this can be somewhat subjective, but is anyone else measuring 4-5 weeks ahead and does it mean anything?

Thanks.

Re: 37 weeks, measuring 42

  • What is measuring 42... your belly or the actual baby in a sonogram?

  • oh, sorry, my belly.  My dr doesn't do sonograms after the 19 week A/S.

  • I've been measuring 23 weeks ahead the whole time. They just did a growth ultrasound Thursday and found out that I have a lot of extra fluid. Sometimes it can mean big baby sometimes extra fluid or possibly just a growth spurt and you will even out. Ask your dr. if they feel a scan is needed if you are concerned.

  • At my last appt my belly was measuring 4 weeks ahead.  I've had a few growth scans done and he's on the bigger side, as of the last week he was approx 8lbs 3oz.  Before the ultrasounds were done my dr said it could just be the baby's position, extra fluid or just a big baby.  In my case it's just a big baby :)

  • It could be a big baby, more fluid, or just the way you carry. Try not to stress about it.

I measured 48 weeks fundally at 37w0d, my last u/s prior at 36w3d she was estimated to be 8 lbs 11 oz. She was born at exactly 37w0d weighing 9 lbs 2 oz.  I had extra fluid and due to my previous c/s my uterus was irritable and contracting 1-2 minutes for 4 days (I had NSTs at both appts that showed the contractions) without cervical changes. They did an emergency c/s since I was measuring large and a large baby that they were concerned with uterine rupture. I was not expecting that at my appt. I worked all day and drove DS and I to the appt and then to the hospital as the contractions started getting painful.

DS was 10 lbs at 39w1d and I think I measured 46 weeks at 37w1d (which was the biggest). Once he dropped, I went down to a respectable 6 weeks fundally ahead. At 36w1d he was estimated to be 8 lbs 1 oz.

Neither of my dates were off, DS was a monitored clomid baby and DD was a "only had sex one time that month". Her weeks were based on when we DTD, the first two u/s (at 6 & 7 weeks) she was 4 days behind so she could have been a 36 weeker and she was classified as a late preterm by NICU.

Sorry no paragraphs, bumping from my phone.

This. Try not to worry about it. They just measure from your pubic bone to belly button, so maybe you have a high belly button. Or maybe you're carrying lower and there is just more to measure below your belly button. It could be something as silly as that.
