LO has been on a puree strike for the past two weeks. I've been experimenting with different foods that I can give him, with little success. He loves cheerios, puffs, and graham crackers - but he needs to eat other foods! He'll eat strips of toast with soy butter on it. He won't eat scrambled eggs, boiled carrot pieces (though he loved pureed carrots), pasta (with or without sauce), or meat (he'll gum it, but spits it out). He can't have milk and we don't have any natural food places close by (within an hour's drive), so my dairy-free substitutions are limited. Any ideas of things that I could let him try that would be relatively easy to find?
ETA: He's still BF, so he's getting nutrients that way, but I'm going to have to wean him in the next month and a half, since I'll be returning to work.
Re: Need non-puree food ideas - milk allergy
We just saw a dietician b/c my LO also has milk allergy. She said he should really be on formula or breast milk until two. I just thought I'd throw that out there especially if your LO isn't eating a very varied diet and you plan to wean soon-- he should probably have a hypoallergenic (or elemental) formula to supplement him. It's hard to make up the nutrients in their diets alone. Or alternatively you could probably just keep nursing him morning, dinner and night if you want, for extra nutrition. 3-4x a day is adequate to replace cow's milk past one. There would be no need to pump at his age.
I make DS homemade vegan muffins. The recipes on Happy Herbivore's blog (just google, I don't know the URL offhand) are great. I halve the sugar. He LOVES them. They are a healthier alternative to that packaged stuff. I use whole wheat flour for them.
My LO also loves roasted sweet potato dices. Turnip, too. Soft steamed green beans in small pieces. Peas make great finger food. Corn kernels. Beans or chickpeas. I make mashed potato 'balls' so he can self-feed and he loves it. Try different meats too.
I bread chicken breast strips in whole wheat flour (plus garlic powder, basil and just a TINY bit of salt) and lightly pan fry in olive oil for 'chicken fingers' - he LOVES them. Fruit is good too, we do lots of halved blueberries, small pieces of strawberry, mango etc.
Oh and these are a big hit in our house, I made a big batch of 'fingers' (small breakfast sausage sized) and froze in packs of 3s:

I omitted the egg, added olive oil and shredded spinach, then baked lower than it says so they stayed soft. I would really just keep trying with various finger foods. Offer TONS of variety.
