Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Total Hours of Sleep Per Day: How many?

Looking to see what the typical/appropriate amount of sleep is for a 9/10 month old.

Also, what is your LO's sleep schedule (time of day for naps & amount of time, plus night time sleep hours--from when to when)?

Do you "control" it or have they established in themselves?

As I try to shift my own LO's schedule, I want to be sure he's getting enough sleep in total and not sure whether it matters if he naps at the same time each day--or just when he shows tired signs.

Re: Total Hours of Sleep Per Day: How many?

  • We have been on a 2-3-4 hour schedule for months. So first nap 2 hrs after he wakes then second nap 3 hours after he wakes and bedtime about 4-5 hours after he wakes. He's been extending his first wake period to 2.5 hours lately.

  • She's in bed from 7ish pm until sometime between 7-8am with usually two wakeups in between.  She then takes a nap around 10-11:30ish then another sometime mid-late afternoon.  Aside from bedtime for the night, we don't have a really set schedule so she's done it on her own.

  • Up between 645 &7a, bed time at 7/730pm. At school she used to have two naps, one at 1030 another at 330, both lasted about 30-45min. Now she put herself on one nap at 1130-1ish
  • Try this link. It's got great information. Don't forget that these are averages/suggestions and that every baby is different.

  • Our typical day goes like this..

    8:30 wake up
    11:30 nap
    2pm wake from first nap
    4:15 second nap
    6:30ish to 7pm wake up
10:15 falls asleep for the night

For her naps I just give her paci, bear, and security towel and she puts herself to sleep. I stay with her at night until she falls asleep because I treasure the time with her

Who?  Mine's?  Believe me, it wasn't like that for the first 7-8 months.  When we finally slept-trained back in June it made a world of difference.

This is our same schedule, but she usually wakes up once anywhere from 5 to 6:30 to have her first morning bottle.  Then she goes back to sleep until about 7:15 most days, but sometimes she's up as early as 6:30 for the day.  Oh, and her naps are usually just one hour.

  • Wake time - 7a

    Nap - 12-3p

    Bedtime - 7:30p

She used to have a second nap, but she gave it up a couple weeks ago.  She used to take two 2 hour naps, but now is doing one 3 hour nap.

  • We've always been really lucky when it comes to sleep.  Brynn typically sleeps 12-13 hours a night and then her naps vary between home and DC.  When she's at home with me, she typically takes 3 naps.  2 of them are usually 1.5-2 hours and the last one is 45 minutes to an hour.  At DC, we're lucky if she gets in 2 hours total.  Maybe she sleeps so well at night and at home with me because she's catching up from her DC days.  Either way, I know we're lucky and we're probably going to get seriously screwed with Baby #2!!

    BFP #1- 4/2011; DD Brynn born 12/2011

BFP #2- 7/13; EDD- 4/2/14; Lost DS at 20 weeks (11/16/13) due to cord accident

BFP #3- 3/14; EDD- 11/28/14; Lost DD at 15 weeks (6/7/14)- cause unknown

To my angels- I held you every second of your lives and I'll love you every second of mine.

  • My LO STTN from 7pm-7am and usually has two naps from an hour to two hours. So 15-16 hours.
  • I chose 15.

12 hour nights. 8pm to 9am with an hour for bottle at 6am.

Depending on the day she has 1-2 naps. First is about an hour with the 2nd being anywhere from 2-3 hours.
