September 2012 Moms

worried *just a little vent*

So I haven't been home alone with the kids in months as DH has been off work on medical and then when he was able to go back they didn't have his position so he's been on EI. He applied for funding to go back to school and found out that the GED course he took was a scam and so he needed to either go back and finish HS or redo his GED. He decided to finish HS (which I am super thrilled about).

But he now goes back to school full time on Monday and I will be home with the two kids on my own. I'm not sure how I'm going to handle that plus once the baby is born it's not like he can take time off work. I do have a couple people who can help, but unfortunately having my mom come and stay is not an option as I think DH and I would end up killing her.

So now I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do with two high energy toddlers all day starting Monday when taking them a block and a half to the playground today made me need a 3 hour nap. DH has said he will put of going back to school but I have told him no, as it is its going to take him 3 semesters to finish I don't want him to put it, school is too important. So wish me luck or some good suggestions on what do to with the kids would be awesome lol

Re: worried *just a little vent*

  • is there a childcare site at his school? if not, you could look into childcare centers. i'm assuming if he's in school and you're at home with the kids you might qualify for free or reduced childcare. depending on the state you're in, there should be a few options out there for you. if not, join a moms group! that will get the little ones out of the house and playing with others while you can vent (in person) and make friends with moms in your area. hope that helps!

  • A lot of states have child care subsidies available for people who are enrolled in school or job training programs. Couldn't hurt to apply and see if you qualify! Also maybe a nanny-share with another mom so you can split costs.

Other suggestions: Mother's Day Out or Mothers of Preshoolers programs at local churches; storytime at the library (check out books/videos too); easy craft or baking projects *mix cornstarch and water together in a bucket and it makes this awesome goo that is so fun to play in!; scavenger hunts around house/ backyard...that's all I can think of for now.
