Fear of miscarriage bc of cramping

My expected period was yesterday and I took a pregnancy test that showed a positive result. I am very nervous because my husband and I experienced a miscarriage a little over a year ago with our first pregnancy. For about 3 days now I have been having a mild dull ache/cramp in my abdomen and lower back. I know it's best to stay stress-free but that is near impossible. I am calling Monday to talk to a dr. and let them know what is going on. I just wish I could know if this will be another miscarriage. I do have tender breasts and have had some faint waves of nausea. Last time I was pregnant I felt no signs or symptoms whatsoever until I started bleeding and had cramps. Sorry I know this is long but any suggestions on whether this abdomen/back ache is normal at time of missed period?

Re: Fear of miscarriage bc of cramping

  • I had pretty bad cramps right before I was supposed to get my period and then had my BFP a few days later. It's been almost 3 weeks and everything seems to be going fine. Waiting for first u/s on Friday....hang in there and don't stress about something you have no control over....

  • I can only give you my personal experience and say I'm kind of in the same boat. With my first pregnancy, I had slight cramps for weeks. It's completely normal to experience some small level of cramping, I've been told. It felt for me like I was constantly approaching my period. Everything turned out fine and we have a beautiful two year old now. I just found out I am pregnant last night and have been experiencing the same cramps. I'm prone to worry and know that it's pointless. It is so hard when you want something so bad. I hope you are able to find some peace of mind and enjoy this time. sorry about format on iPhone

  • Thanks everyone for responding! It does give me peace of mind that you all have shared the same experience. I definitely should relax because it could be a long pregnancy if I don't! Thank you all again
  • Definitely normal. With my son and now with this pregnancy I had plenty of cramping in the first few weeks. Felt a lot like my period. I still get occasional cramping and will be 7 weeks on Monday. Hope that helps to relieve some stress!

  • With my first I had pretty much a great pregnancy and cramped for WEEKS. When I m/c I also cramped but I don't think I cramped as bad and now this time I have been cramping again for weeks now. Cramping doesn't always mean m/c. Although none us can say for sure this sounds normal to me. Try relax til you can see your Dr and hopefully you can get some peace of mind then blood work and an u/s etc.. the waiting does stink we are all with you on that..

  • Cramps are very common in early pregnancy. I also have had period like cramps since a few days before my positive hpt. They would come and go randomly - sometimes I'd have a few spells in a day, other times I'd skip a day or two without any. I'm 7 weeks now and haven't had any in a few days.

  • Thanks for posting this! I've been cramping at least one a day this week (with no bleeding) for only a few minutes and was getting a little worried. Now I know it's normal, I can rest...A little, lol!

  • With both DD and this pregnancy I had period-like cramps for the first couple of weeks. Totally normal!

  • Cramping is common throughout pregnancy. Try not to stress and stay calm as it should help to relieve some of the cramping.

  • I started having cramping and back pain several days before my expected period, the cramping lasted for several weeks and back pain has no sign of leaving anytime soon.  With my last pregnancy I barely had any cramping until the day I miscarried, at which point it was so bad I could not function.  So, now I take it as a good sign of the uterus stretching and growing.

I was like that when I miscarried years ago, i wasn't cramping but the spotting came first. cramping only started when i was passing the baby. i just confirmed pregnancy for sure yesterday and feeling light cramping right now, similar to period and when i have to use the restroom. i didnt have this years ago, so i am hoping it is a good sign that baby is growing fine. :D

  • Mild cramping is totally normal, especially in early pregnancy. I am almost 27 weeks and experience it still from time to time. My entire first 6-8 weeks of pregnancy I felt like I was getting my period!

As long as you aren't spotting or anything like that, I wouldn't be too worried. If you are really concerned, make sure to contact your OB. Just keep an eye on things :)
