words

A lot of you are saying your LOs are talking.  When they say words, can anyone understand them?

My LO says DOG but it comes out like DAA.  We are trying to emphasize the G but now she says DAA-DUH.

There's no way anyone would be able to tell she's saying dog.  But, we are counting it as her first word.

It's the only thing she says.

Re: words

  • I think the only things other people can understand Lena saying are "dada" and "cat". Oh, and she calls me "Nannon", which my family at least understands. Otherwise, not so much.

G is a later sound for kids to master like closer to 3-4 especially as a final sound in a word. That doesn't mean kids can't say it earlier though.

That being said, Nick does mama dada and that's about it the rest is jiberish!

  • She does kitty, Mom and Hi with clarity so others can understand.

Dad, Up and a few other things are only decipherable to H and I.

She knows about 10ish words total I'd say, 3 she uses with an frequency.

  • Mama, Dada, and "ba" for ball. He understands a lot more than he can say, but I am sure that is true for all of the babies.

my boys are the same way. They have a higher receptive language than expressive language

  • Mama, Papa, Dada (which he recently stopped saying), other than that nada.

When asked what sound a cow makes or what a dog makes he makes those sounds, but they may not be understood by others.

He says things that I think he says a word, but I don't count it, because even I don't understand it.

Oh yeah, bye-bye was on for a good 3 week stretch.  Now he hasn't said it in about 1.5 months.

  • He doesn't say mama or dada, which I find odd. He says "dog", "ball", "light", "uh oh" and "hello." he actually says "ball", "light" and "uh oh" pretty clearly.

  • LO probably has 10 words but only we know them.  For instance, cat is "dah dah" b/c we always called our cat "the cat" and so now it is two syllables.  Ball is "bah bah" b/c the first time I said it (and he got it) it happened to be a blue ball so now every ball is "bah bah".  Surprisingly dog is "dah" and I'm not sure how he didn't pick up "the" with it since I'm usually referring to someone walking their dog on the street.  The only one that really sounds true is "uh oh".

  • Clear words good enough for understanding are mama, dada, baba, papa, ball, cat, dog, Elmo, Abby, up, down, all done, one, two, three, more, duck, quack, eye, nose, Rocco (our dog) car, no, pool, baby, PayPay for Peyton.

  • DS does not have many words. He inconsistently says mama/mom-mom and Abba (hebrew for dad). He just started saying "go" this week, and his newest discovery- Elmo.

  • His most understandable word is "Bye bye"

Lol, funny story, we were shopping, he yells "Mama!" I say "What?" He says "Bye Bye!"

    Our first conversation!

Other than that he says "Mine" but it's not clear to everyone, and he tries to say Doggy but he's still way off with that!

  • we also hear duk (dog) and also keeka (kitty cat), crackah (cracker), baaaybee (baby), dis (this), dat (that), buk (book), mama and dada. so cute! cracker is my favorite.
