Talk to me about Zofran

I started Zofran @7weeks and it was as if a little piece of heaven was in each pill.  I'm 9 weeks now and I'm really sick despite the Zofran.  Are there different doses of Zofran?  Maybe I could up it?  Can I build up an immunity to it?  Or do I just feel worse because my hormones are higher.  With my son I didn't take anything and I think I remember feeling worse around this time.

Also, if you take it, are you worse if you don't take it every 8 hours?  I started skipping my overnight one in hopes of solving the constipation issue although it hasn't helped.  I'm a friggen mess!

Re: Talk to me about Zofran

  • What dose are you on?

You could theoretically go up in dosage, but 9-10 weeks tends to be particularly bad for M/S as that's when HCG peaks.

  • Zofran hasn't worked for me at all.

  • Skipping a dose made me feel like I wasn't taking it at all. I was taking 4mg every 6 hours, even waking up in the middle of the night to take it. Otherwise, I wasn't getting out of bed.

  • Zofran comes in 4mg and 8mg doses.  Not taking it on schedule will potentially have you chasing symptoms rather than staying on top of them. (constipation isn't a usual side effect of Zofran, if anything it's usually diarrhea)

Im on the 4mg pills every 8 hours.  Thanks for the info- maybe I can just push through for a couple more weeks.  With my son I was sick until 26 weeks, so I'm hoping this stops sooner!

Really?  My doc, nurses, and everyone else said its a killer for constipation.  I'll call Monday.

  • I take 8mg of Zofran every 6 to 8 hours.  My doctor said to take it around the clock so I'm staying on top of the nausea.  I also take phenergan every 4hours because the zofran stops beginning effective for me after 4 hours.

Ask your doctor if you can up your meds to 8 mg.  It may help but be prepared for major constipation issues.
