TTC after 35

genetic counseling

Hello ladies! I am fairly new to this game and in need of advice.  I'm 35 and TTC.  SO and I have been trying for 4 months, no luck.  I have 2 children; 10 and 7 from previous marriage, suffered 3 miscarriages between the 2. Got pregnant on first try with each of my pregnancies.   We have an appointment for genetic counseling soon with a reputable clinic.  Any idea what this will entail?  I have a blood clotting disorder that was recently worked up by my hematologist.  With my last pregnancy I gave myself Lovenox injections.  Anyone know if there is something newer on the market? I guess I am curious what will take place at this appointment and what tests will possibly be ordered.  Feels like a waste of time, but then again I am anxious to get KU!  Thanks!

Re: genetic counseling

  • Have you and SO had karyotyping done?

If not, I'm sure they will do that first.  In fact, if  you haven't had it done, you may want to call and see if they can do it now so that they will have the info when you go to your appt.

Anyway, when I went they asked questions about me, my family, DH's family (how many kids, miscarriages, live births, all still living?  If deceased how, any genetic disorders in either family, etc.) and age related things.

We have nothing in our history to indicate anything more than age related risks so they went over the age related risks and that was it.

    Good Luck!

  • My genetic counseling was just an interview, we talked about our family history, extended family, illnesses etc...then they talked about the donor egg's family, compared and contrasted information, then recommended further testing that was optional if we wanted to do more blood testing--which we didn't do. Because I am Jewish and the DE is Irish.

My friend, with a blood clotting disorder injected herself with Fragmin throughout her pregnancy, toward the last week before she delivered, she had a pump 24-7.
