How to decorate take'n'toss cups? Help!

I am hosting a shower and we are going to decorate take'n'toss cups/bowls/plates. What do you think would be the best way to decorate these? I'm thinking sharpies/permanent markers are the best bet. I know whatever we use will probably wash off in the dishwasher (esp puff paint). Any crafters know of anything that would stick longer??

  • Paint pens should work. You can get them at a craft store and they look like markers. They will be more opaque than sharpies.

Just be sure to ready for clean-up if someone is upset about getting paint on their hands. Or have gloves.

  • I agree with the paint pens.  I used them at my DD's BD party almost a year ago (plastic "gold" goblets - Princess theme) and have washed them in the dishwasher many times (top rack only).  I can still see her and her brother's names on them...although they are starting to show wear a little bit the last couple of months.
  • I agree with the paint pen idea. This is what we used to paint party cups in college. I have one left (now 20 years later) and you can almost still read the names on it...almost. : )

  • Thanks ladies! Just wanted to follow up and let you know I did go with paint pens and they look so cute on the cups! Not sure how long they will last but even if they wash off eventually they don't lose their functionality!

  • I would really not wash them in a dishwasher with your other dishes...the paint will come off and get on the things you eat on. Yuck.
