Crib transition questions

So she's been in the crib full time for a few weeks now and she's really struggling. Occasionally she will sleep a good 2 or 3 hour stretch [yes, that's good for her these days] but often she is up every 45 to 60 minutes. Usually I get so tired that I end up bringing her in bed with me but I don't want to bed share long term and our bed doesn't meet all the safe bed sharing rules so I don't like doing it. I had to call out sick today because I am just SO exhausted! First question: should I just suck it up and stop bringing her to our bed so she just gets used to the crib?do you think I'm creating a habit? Also, any suggestions to keep her asleep longer in the crib? I think our bed is just so much more comfortable for her... She isn't swaddled anymore also stopped that a few weeks ago, so maybe she's adjusting to that too? ugh!! Sorry this is so long and no paragraphs phone but I just need to do something!!! Also, she's in our room if that matters no other option due to living situation

Re: Crib transition questions

  • We transferred Lincoln into his crib at 3 months and in the beginning, he had the same issues Delaney is having. What worked for us was to put a blanket (the micro-fleece ones) over the crib sheet and we tucked it in the sides of the crib (so it was tight) so that he was on a softer, warmer material. Once we started that, he was sleeping 5-6 hour stretches, up to eat, then another 4 hour stretch. We've since removed the blanket and he sleeps on the crib sheet no problem. The blanket helped his crib feel a little more squishy and similiar feeling to my bed. HTH!

Omg! That is a great idea! Definitely going to try that [as long as DH doesn't say no, he's a little over worried about SIDS] but it's safer than our bed so it should be okay. Thanks!!

I stretched it so tight that there was no baginess at all. Just tuck the sides of the blanket into the front and back of the crib and you're good to go! Hope it works for you guys! :)

  • Are you using a sleep sack? I use one of the heavier quilted types and I think the extra weight on her legs helps her to calm down so she can fall asleep easier.

We are using a cotton Halo sleep sack. This is a good point though because sometimes I think her legs moving wakes her up..

  • Allison sleeps in the crib like a champ. Ethan, well he's a different story and I pull him into bed with me too! He's so fussy and even if he's almost completely out he somehow wakes up most of the time if I put him in the crib! Does she take a paci, my daughter goes to bed with one. Ethan cannot hold one in his mouth. Also, maybe something to make your LO feel more secure?? I'm going to put the Summertime flat sleeper in the crib and try that next. I feed him in the room too and it's dark which seems to help!

She does take a paci but that's part of the problem actually because if she is even slightly awake she insists on pulling it out and chewing in the side of it then gets pissed off that it's not in correctly but can't get it back in right! Sorry for the long sentence!!
