No more dairy

So A has been waking up in the middle of the night screaming like he is in pain. He arches his back, kicks his legs, and then burps or passes gas. It started when he went off his zantac for reflux around 10 months- but he also started dairy (yogurt, cheese) around that time. So I cut out the dairy and he improved. I took him to the pedi yesterday to talk about what to do regarding dairy since I am weaning him. She said no dairy at all right now for him. At one he can start either coconut or almond milk. Now I have to start trying to get him to eat other foods with calcium to make sure he is getting enough. I hope he eventually out grows this intolerance. I did forget to ask the pedi about the zantac but we go back in two weeks for his 1 year visit so I will ask then.

Re: No more dairy

  • have you tried Greek yogurt? The way it is made makes it have VERY little lactose. Many people that can't tolerate normal lactose can still have it.

I feel you though, DD has now twice failed the WCM introduction, she is definitely intolerant. Only a few sips will tear her stomach up. However processed dairy (yogurt, cheese etc) seems to have no effect on her. We will start Almond Milk next week after the ok from her pedi.

The pedi seems to think he is intolerant to the dairy protein and not just lactose. So for now all dairy- even stuff like Greek yogurt with low lactose- is out.
