Breast Pumps exempted from taxes in MD?

I was looking over the La Leche League website which directed me to another website regarding the laws on BF in each state.  For MD, it states:

"Maryland exempts the sale of tangible personal property that is manufactured for the purpose of initiating, supporting or sustaining breastfeeding from the sales and use tax."

I just bought the Medela pump from Target this week (since it was on sale) and looking over my receipt, there was sales tax added to it.  According to the above statement, should I not have been charged the tax?

  • Interesting! I also bought a pump from Target this week, and was really confused about why they didn't charge any sales tax. This explains it!

Did you buy yours in store or online? I bought mine online.

  • I bought mine in the store and I went back to guest services who were NOT helpful.  So I had to call Guest Relations and awaiting them to get back to me.
