Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Graco car seat too hot!!!!

Hello!

I rarely post on here since I some how always get the answer to my question when I search the bump.  I have a question!!!

My baby gets extremely hot in her car seat. She gets to the point of non stop crying for the duration of the car trip!! It's so stressful to have her cry for so long.

Does anyone have this issue? Are there any car seats that are cooler?

We have the Snugride 30. Victoria is 12 weeks, and has tons of hair!!!! :)

Thanks in advance,

Elena

Yep, I have the same problem w/ DS.  But I will say, I never had this problem w/ DD who was born at the end of Sept.  Hopefully our LOs will find relief as the weather cools.

  • We have the same problem. We also have a Snugride, though I venture to guess that most/all carseats are equally as hot. There is nothing cool or breathable about being incased in a plastic shell and synthetic fabric (also good to remember when tempted to keep baby in the bucket outside of the car). Come to think of it, maybe it I removed the extra head snuggly thing that would allow for more circulation. We didn't use that part with DS1, albiet he was born in January.
  • Our car seat does not get hot. We have a chicco one that doesn't have the fluffy fabric but the kind that can be easily wiped down. Not sure what to call it, sorry! Hope this helps a little. BTW it's super hot where I live, so I really paid attention to that issue and mine works fine.
  • I have th Chicco too the wipeable fabric mentioned above and my son gets hot. I started dressing him in just a onsie when we go out and bringing along pants and a blanket to redress him when we're in a store or house with air conditioning.

My daughter didn't get quite so hot in the same seat but then again, she's a Jan baby and moved to a convertible seat sometime around 9 months or so Aug /Sept.

  • I know it won't help for when he's actually in the car seat, but to keep the seat from getting as hot when we're not using it, I tuck a white blanket/towel into it. (I used to drape it over the top, but a woman freaked out b/c she thought I had left my baby in the car.) I also found that using a window shade helps, although it has taken getting used to since it kind of blocks my vision out that side. (I got the Brica kind that you can kind of see through.)

We ended up switching Aria to a convertible seat at about 4 months because of this. We've had record-breaking temps all summer here in Indiana, and she was miserable. She's much happier in the convertible, and I'm wondering why I messed with the infant bucket in the first place.

  • I bought a liner called cool me off of amazon, that prevents them from back sweating. It is very thin, to create a layer of air between baby and carseat and does not affect the safety of the car seat, and you can use it in the stroller too. And a clip on fan from the auto section of target for $9.99 and clip it on the headrest of the opposite seat keep the cord out of reach and plug into the cigarette lighter.... Point it towards her and it amazing how well it keeps the entire car cooler. FYI: target only sells this in the summer.

  • Thanks so much for the suggestions!! Luckily we live in Canada, so it'll be cold soon enough :)
