Tilting head to one side at 4 1/2 months?

Joanna has never had an issue with this until the last couple of days. She  doesn't do it all the time, but both the ILs and I have noticed that she sometimes holds her her head cocked really far to the left. She does it in the car, when we're holding her, when we're sitting her up on our laps.  She doesn't do it when she is laying down or when she is in her RnP or when she's on her stomach and lifting her head up.

Any idea why this could be or has anyone else's kid started doing it out of the blue?

  • I think this can also be a sign of teething.....

  • My first thought was an ear infection because L was doing that, but not as often as she is. My second thought was that torticollis (sp?) that someone mentioned a while back. Or maybe this is just a new thing she discovered she can do? Babies are weird. I'd probably give it a couple more days and if it didn't improve take her in.
  • Hm, she doesn't seem in pain and is acting normal otherwise. I don't know if I should call the pedi today or wait and see if it stops over the weekend. I feel weird calling about something like this that she's only doing sometimes.
  • You might consider her eyes too.

I have a lazy eye and have no straight forward vision (only peripheral) in my left eye.  My parents didn't know anything was wrong with my vision until I was in the 1st grade and I had my eyes checked at school.  When I went to the eye doctor for the first time, he asked my mom if she'd noticed me holding my head to one side, being overly clumsy, etc.  My mom said she'd never thought about it until then, but I did tend to hold my head tilted to the right.  The dr. explained that sometimes kids will hold their head so that the more dominant eye is on top.

It's probably nothing to do with her eyes, but just thought I'd mention it since it's something that I am actively watching DS about too.
