Next month we are doing our first orientation with DCS for foster parent licensing. That's where they hand out all the paperwork. How long did it take you to get your initial paperwork completed? Also, after that comes the classes. Indiana requires 20 hours. But I don't know if that means five 4 hour classes, twenty weeks of training or what. How many weeks did it take you to complete your required classes before the home study begins? I'm just trying to get a rough timeline in my head...

Re: F2A question on classes and class length
We completed our initial paperwork that night at the orientation meeting. It was basic information along with a bunch of releases for them to run background checks. Then we had to wait to be invited to the training classes. We got our invitation about a month later, with the class starting 2 months after that. We had to complete 30 hours, which can be broken down 3 ways: one 3 hour class for ten weeks on weeknights, two 3 hour classes for 5 weeks on weeknights, or 5 Saturdays (two classes in one day). We were slated for the last option, so it took about a month.
As far as timeline, it seems normal for licensing to take about a year. We went to our first orientation meeting on June 24, 2011 and were licensed May 13, 2012. After decling a few placements that were out of our preferred range, we welcomed our first placement in our home on June 15, 2012. Here is our timeline if you are interested in more details.
