Eh-lees or Ee-lees (which is my first thought when I see the name). I've heard it both ways. I think sometimes different regions might pronounce it differently. Like near us, if we are in a community in the southern portion of the state that was traditionally mostly German heritage, we hear it one way. If we are further north and into the Norwegian area, we hear it pronounced slightly differently. I have one friend how pronounces it as Uh-leez, which is never what I would think.

My mn is Elise and I always emphasize the long E sound so it is like the way your DH pronounces it. However, I also have a younger cousin named Allyse pronounces Uh-lease so maybe that is why I am so adamant about the long E sound.
Re: How do you pronounce Elise?
E-lease is how I say it in my head when I read it.
Eh-lease is how it comes out when I actually say it. Strange.
I think it's a pretty name though.
