Im not sure if I asked about this before

But, DD is taking 3 milk bottles a day drinking maybe 6 oz in each. I wasn't planning on dropping any bottles anytime soon. She uses sippies for water. Am I the only bumpie who isn't dropping them yet? I don't have any specific reason for doing so other than I'm in no rush I guess(not saying anyone is rushing their kid). I thought *maybe* dropping one bottle when she goes down to one nap. Thoughts?

Re: Im not sure if I asked about this before

  • We are sill doing 3 bottles of milk a day. At nap times and bed time. Not sure when we will drop any bottles yet.

  • I was advised to still give Vitamin D milk at naps and bedtime. She has three servings a day (2 naps, and bedtime). At naps, she has sippy cups and at bed she has a bottle.

I wouldn't drop the actual milk intake, I'm just curious about the bottle specifically.
  • We are down to a bottle at night only.  He gets one sippy of milk at breakfast, but otherwise he won't drink it.  I'd prefer to be done with the bottle altogether, but he has a hip brace he has to wear at night for three months (he's a month in) and I am not crazy enough to do anything to mess with his night time routine.

Our pedi wants him off bottles period, but the way I look at it, it's one bottle and he gets his teeth wiped/brushed before he actually goes to bed.  I'd say do what works for you.  In my opinion 1 has always seemed a little young to go cold turkey, but it works for some people.  It's not like you have a 3 year old running around with a bottle hanging out of her mouth or like she's knocking back kool aid in it.

  • Cupcakes, that's my attitude about it. It's just that I'm seeing this whole dropping bottles all over tb and I've never considered taking bottles away right now. Partly because she's my last baby and in my own mindset I think, why rush it? Btw, 3 years old with a kool aid bottle cracks me up! Oh god, what if Sophia's bottle usage is the gateway to kool aid bottles????
  • We went ahead and dropped them, but only bc it was so easy to do.  We were weaning and dd wanted nothing to do with a bottle of Wcm in place of nursing.  If you do feel like dropping them, I bought the sippys with a soft rubber top.  I figured it was kind of an in between.  Now she associates those with milk and straw sippys with water.

  • I still use bottles for milk at naptimes and bed time. It's easier and I enjoy the cuddle. But, he also takes a sippy just fine, so I'm not worried. He has also started associating the bottle as part of the sleep routine. So sometimes he is gladly following me for it, and sometimes not
  • We still use 4 x 6.5 oz bottles of formula a day. Lilu is shy of 18lbs and I don't want her slipping off the chart again. I brush her teeth with toddler toothpaste after every bottle so it's no big deal. She also gets sippies of milk with each meal and her snack, but I'd say she actually drinks 4oz a day.

  • I was reeeally hesitant to just drop bottles.  It felt forced and rushed and not good for him.  But he did not seem to notice or care at all as we slowly dropped them or offered cups in their place.  Didn't even phase him.  Now I only offer one at night after his bath and if I don't he doesn't seem to sleep as well so I think he's still learning he needs to eat more food at dinner.  And since I still plan to nurse him before bed, and plan to tandem nurse my boys, I figure why drop the bedtime bottle until my milk comes in after #2 is here...so that's my plan now...keep the one bottle until he's 16 or so months, and then replace it with nursing instead.  We'll see how it works though.

I don't think you need to be in any hurry though!  And our pedi just said good idea to have them off bottles by 18 months (and a close girlfriend of mine didn't drop the one nighttime bottle until 23 months b/c it just didn't feel right to her until then).  Whatever works for you and your gal!

  • We dropped bottles because DS refused to drink WCM from a bottle he would only take it from a sippy.  So when we were done with formula we were also done with bottles.  He started refusing his bottles of formula or would only drink an ounce or two from a 6 oz bottle, so we dropped it all at once.  His pedi was thrilled that he was done with bottles, I was happy because I knew he was ready to be done with them and I didn't have to fight with him over it and feel like I was forcing him.
