Bed sharing Mommy worried about daycare

My DD and I have bed shared from day one. My parents babysit while DH and I work. They have been understanding and accommodating with our bed sharing arrangement thus far. In January we will have to put DD in a daycare, she has never slept alone in a crib or pnp. Should I sleep train her prior to sending her to daycare?

Re: Bed sharing Mommy worried about daycare

  • I agree with PP...do what works for you in your home and DC will figure out how to help your LO sleep well there.  Kids are different in different environments.  My son took just about every nap on me for his first four months, then was about 50/50 on me/in my bed for naps until 5 months, then he started DC.  They quickly learned he didn't transition to a crib well, so they started doing a mat on the floor with him from 6 months on...they rock him to sleep, lay down with him on the floor and slowly pull away.  He does great, and is now 12 months old and naps well at DC, but nurses to sleep in our bed and bedshares every night all night with us.  I wouldn't worry too much (which I say b/c I was worried SO MUCH, and for nothing!).  GL!

  • I think your LO will be fine.  My DD mostly slept on me when I was still on ML, never napped in her crib and very rarely napped in the swing.  She now sleeps in the swing or in a bouncy chair at daycare.  It will take a little getting used to but your LO will get figure out a way to sleep there without you.

  • New here!

So from what I understand, your parents sleep with your DD.  What if you had them try to transition her to naps in a crib or PNP.  I am sure it will be easier for them because she isn't quite as attached to them as she is to her momma.

  • Thanks for the reassurance, I guess I just assume Daycare would not know how to deal with her not sleeping on her own. I feel better about it, thanks Ladies!
