WWYD?

I need some advice/opinions/whatever...

I POAS yesterday and ta-daa BFP! Great. I called to make my intake appt with my OB this morning and that man has gone and switched practices. I really had a great experience with the hospital, OB, and everyone that I dealt with for Jake so I was looking forward to dealing with all the same group. I poked around with the practice and found that of all the people I saw before, only the NP is left. My OB doesn't have any other doctors in his practice at the moment but is getting a new NP in October. He is now affiliated with a different hospital that I am not familiar with other than driving past it twice a day. I had a c-section with Jake so I am pretty much set on having a scheduled c-section (not interested in the roller coaster of VBAC after my first attempt).

So... should I stick with the OB that I had before and switch hospitals or stick with the hospital and switch OB's? Thoughts or suggestions??

  • Congrats!

I would think about what I enjoyed most about each aspect, hospital vs. doctor. And decide which one is more important to you, which one you trusted more, liked more, etc. In my pregnancy, I really trusted my OB. The hospital wasn't nearly as important to me as the the person I saw every month or so.

  • Congrats! I personally would stick with same ob, different hospital.
  • First off - CONGRATULATIONS!

Now as for your OB... Since you'd be going for a repeat C-section, does that mean he would for sure be the one doing it? If so, I would probably stick with him. If you're not sure he'D actually be the one delivering your baby, then I'd probably stick with the same hospital (unless your experience there wasn't all that great).

  • I just did a little digging around and apparently the three main nurses that I dealt with at the hospital where I delivered Jake all jumped ship and went to the other hospital with my OB. I think that is a clear sign that things have gone wrong at hospital #1 so I will stick with my OB and go to the new hospital. As long as this kid sticks to a somewhat reasonable schedule, my OB will be there to deliver. If the kid decides to make an appearance ahead of time and my OB isn't on call, then I guess we will just make new friends with the OB on call.

I loved my OB. So wherever he goes, would be be where I go. But really it's a personal thing. So none of us can really tell what works for you.

Congratulations!  This exactly!  I love my OB so even when I moved out of state I still came to see him for my annuals.  But, you have to be comfortable with your overall experience.
