Nursing in a Womens hospital.. ridiculous

Last night we went to visit my SIL (S) who just had her baby boy!  yay.  So we arrived at Women and Infants in RI along with DH's sister (J) and her husband bc hospital has a no kids under 12 to visit rule.  We figured we'd watch their 2 girls while they visited and they'd watch DD.  Regardless.  DH's sister is still nursing their 6 month old and told us to visit first bc she had to nurse.  She sits in a waiting area with maybe 10 others there and proceeds to take her nursing cover out and start to nurse the baby.  A security lady at the hospital yells from across the room so everyone can hear and SIL is farthest of all waiting room people from her "hey you cant do that in here!  Theres  a room over there for that.  SIL has thick skin (she had 7 brothers) but she's embarrassed.  The lady also tells her she cant take her 2 year old or our DD with her bc the room is just for nursing!!!!  We were all horrified when we heard!!  Can you imagine that at a hospital called Woman and Infants they have staff thats so uneducated that they'd publicly embarrass a nursing mom whose being discreet!  We were fuming.  BIL who just had the baby went and told staff about the incident and they reacted quickly and went and got to the bottom of the story and turns out the security woman was worried about the ppl in the waiting room and asked another security what to do and he said well you can offer the room.  She took it upon herself to yell, embarrass and shame my SIL!  They told her she was wrong and I think the hospital is now looking into some staff education to make sure this never happens again.  Glad the staff knew enough to apologize, try to resolve it and educate but how crazy is that???

    That is ridiculous. I am sorry you SIL had to deal with that. Hopefully the staff will be better educated so this does not happen again.

    This is ridiculous! Good of your BIL to stand up for his wife and say something. At least now they'll get the education they need!

    That's crazy! I've never been anywhere that I couldn't nurse.....and don't know of anywhere. That's sad she had to endure that.

    Wow. I would've been embarrassed but pissed enough to yell back that it's illegal to tell a woman she can't breastfeed anywhere.

    That's awful and illegal, I think.  I nursed DD just about everywhere and thankfully never had people make rude comments or tell me I couldn't do it.

    We're the 22nd but with DD I went 16 days late! Im hoping to go a lot closer to my due date this time around!
