Should I buy the PISA?

The sale at target is seriously tempting me. 225 is a great price. I was a cheapskate and bought the double electric from avent. It has a million pieces ad I feel the quality is meh.

I am just skeptical because of the tubing and potential cloudiness. Rave about your PISA if you love yours.

Re: Should I buy the PISA?

  • I have the freestyle but it's very similar to the PISA (basically same motor but comes out of the bag)

The pump is great, excellent motor and when I was pumping I had great output and thought it was easy to use and almost idiot proof.

  • I also have the freestyle, and it was given to be my a mom who used it at least 5 times a day, for 6 or 7 months.  The tubing has never gotten cloudy, I bought a few replacement parts (flages) but thats it. I get great output, (pump 3 times a day, get around 20 oz). BUT i have never used a different pump.

FYI - if you do go with medela, you can buy the cheap gerber bottles, and they fit the pump.

  • $225 is such a great price! I really like my PISA and I EP, so I drag it around with me everywhere. I have not had to replace the tubing. It is slightly cloudy, but I have read that is okay. I have had one instance of getting milk in the tubes, which was several months ago. I still don't know what exactly I did to cause that, but I was able to easily wash and sterilize them, and then leave them on the pump for a bit to dry them out. After each pump session, there is a little condensation in the tubes, so I let them run for about 2 minutes afterwards and they dry out.

  • LOVE it.  Check first to make sure your health insurance doesn't cover a pump...they don't advertise it, but many do. (Mine covered a PISA for $50).

It is fantastic, works really well, and the tubing is no big deal. Go for it!

  • I pumped at work for 2 years with my first PISA and wasn't bummed to buy my new one when D arrived. It held up really well. The company has great customer service. If you call and tell them your tubing is cracked they will replace it.

Ditto on the great customer service. My adapter started buzzing when plugged in, and they mailed me a new one that day, no questions asked.

  • I love my PISA! I wish I got it for 225 but it's worth every penny regardless!

  • I looove my PISA, I've never used another pump but it works great! My tubing did get cloudy after I tried to sterlize it in the Medela steam bag and i think I'm going to buy some new tubes but it still works fine. I do get condensation in the tops of the tubes near the bottles but like pp said I just keep the pump on for a couple minutes after I disconnect and it dries them out. I've never seen it on sale for so cheap so I would snatch it up if you've been thinking about it.

  • I like my PISA. I'm currently using a symphony at home and the PISA when I go out (EP'ing) and it isn't comparable to the symphony but it does the job

My insurance covered 80% of my PISA

I like using medela because they carry all the replacement parts for cheap at my hospital lactation clinic

  • I have it and I haven't had any problems with it. I like it but I also have nothing to compare it to except the hospital grade medela symphony.

  • I like it, though I have never tried any others so can't compare.

I feel like it has good power, I don't need to turn it to the max or anything. Also I have gotten milk in the tubes but no biggie I just boil them up with the other bits in the pot, pop them on the pump for a few minutes to dry out.

I like the backpack it has a decent amount of space in it.

  • I had a PISA with DS, and I thought it was great until it started losing suction (and yes, the membranes were replaced, but it didn't help). I got a Hygeia EnJoye pump this time with DD. I love the EnJoye so much more than the PISA! It has great suction, and I am able to comfortably pump ~6 oz in about 5-7 minutes (Most of the time I am not able to get more time than that to pump or my 3 year old DS will get into trouble). I am also able to get several let downs with the EnJoye, and I was not able to do that with the PISA.
