Tricks of the trade?

I feel so frumpy, yucky and fat. Besides working out and eating well...is there a special trick anyone else is using to lose the pudge? I had a CSection so I have the gross little spare tire/muffin top going. I just want to feel good again and wear regular pants.

Any diet pills or tricks out there that actually work?!

Re: Tricks of the trade?

  • If you're looking for long term weight loss, then no. There are no diet pills or tricks that would work. Fad diets, fasts, pills, or other extreme dieting may work in the short term, but it isn't sustainable to live that way. And as soon as you stop the pill/diet you'll likely gain the weight back. And probably then some since restricting your calories too much can slow down your metabolism.

Your best bet is to look at what and how much you are eating. Get rid of as much processed foods as possible. Join myfitnesspal or sparkpeople to get an idea of how many calories you are eating and what a good calorie range would be for your weight loss goals. On top of that start moving - even adding a little bit of exercise each day can help.

  • Yep, that sounds like what I am doing, moving and trying to eat as natural as possible.  I know it takes 9 months to put it on and the same probably to take it off but I guess I was looking for something faster to make me feel like me again.

Thanks for your advice and reality check, you are right.

  • My primary doc attributes some of my weight loss to me being on concerta but i don't see it that way. The same day she prescribed it, i tried on bathing suits...that was the kick in the pants i needed. I started back to the gym at least 5x a week, started tracking everything on my fitness pal, etc. The results i have been seeing are extra motivation and also with my workouts, i don't stick with what i am comfortable doing, i push myself past my comfort zone. If this means sweating my ass off on my lunch break, so be it. I even went so far as to add a bootcamp class my workout recently. Pure torture but i need it (i also do spin 1-2x a week).

  • Pills and tricks aren't the way to go; it's a lifestyle change that will give you permanent results. Really look at what you're eating and thr activity you do. Remember to switch up your exercise often so you're constantly working different muscles to avoid a plateau.

  • Oh I meant to add that you should look into HIIT training high intensity intervals if you like going to the gym. I did this before my wedding and in about 2 months had dropped a size and had really good toning in my arms, legs, and abs. It's not easy by any means but if you keep with it you'll get good results fairly quickly.
