But, DD is taking 3 milk bottles a day drinking maybe 6 oz in each. I wasn't planning on dropping any bottles anytime soon. She uses sippies for water. Am I the only bumpie who isn't dropping them yet? I don't have any specific reason for doing so other than I'm in no rush I guess(not saying anyone is rushing their kid). I thought *maybe* dropping one bottle when she goes down to one nap. Thoughts?
Re: Im not sure if I asked about this before
We are down to a bottle at night only. He gets one sippy of milk at breakfast, but otherwise he won't drink it. I'd prefer to be done with the bottle altogether, but he has a hip brace he has to wear at night for three months (he's a month in) and I am not crazy enough to do anything to mess with his night time routine.
Our pedi wants him off bottles period, but the way I look at it, it's one bottle and he gets his teeth wiped/brushed before he actually goes to bed. I'd say do what works for you. In my opinion 1 has always seemed a little young to go cold turkey, but it works for some people. It's not like you have a 3 year old running around with a bottle hanging out of her mouth or like she's knocking back kool aid in it.
I was reeeally hesitant to just drop bottles. It felt forced and rushed and not good for him. But he did not seem to notice or care at all as we slowly dropped them or offered cups in their place. Didn't even phase him. Now I only offer one at night after his bath and if I don't he doesn't seem to sleep as well so I think he's still learning he needs to eat more food at dinner. And since I still plan to nurse him before bed, and plan to tandem nurse my boys, I figure why drop the bedtime bottle until my milk comes in after #2 is here...so that's my plan now...keep the one bottle until he's 16 or so months, and then replace it with nursing instead. We'll see how it works though.
I don't think you need to be in any hurry though! And our pedi just said good idea to have them off bottles by 18 months (and a close girlfriend of mine didn't drop the one nighttime bottle until 23 months b/c it just didn't feel right to her until then). Whatever works for you and your gal!
